Suggest A Fuzz

Hey there! I am looking to get a tone similar to Electric Wizard, Acid King, Weedeater, Windhand, etc. I have tried lots of different pedals and am not quite getting what I am after - heavy, thick, crushing fuzz! I am currently running a Les Paul loaded with Lace Wino pickups, into an Orange TH30 through a Vader 4x12. Let me know what you think. Thanks! :evil:

Electric Wizard = Boss FZ-2
Acid King = Little Big Muff Pi (one knob 70's version, see our one knob doom room fuzz thread)
Weedeater = Green Russian Muff
Windhand = Rat

With your setup I'd actually probably suggest something like the FZ-2 in boost mode. The newer orange amps are notorious for not liking dirt pedals in front of them especially ones with lots of low end but the FZ-2 could boost your dirt channel into the range of what your trying to achieve. How do you like that Vader cab? Most of the ones I tried had little resonance. I believe they were mainly designed for tight chugging metal i.e; Djent / Thrash / Death Metal, as they were smaller in size and had a line-x type coating on them which prevents the wood from vibrating naturally.

I really like the Vader cab - it has lots of low end thump - I enjoy it and sounds great for the various styles of metal I play. They are like you said - geared towards death metal, but I find it does others well too. I currently have a Sunmachine Colossus - which is an extremely awesome pedal - I am just not getting exactly what I want out of it. It does loads of cool tones though - I doubt I would ever part with it.

:idk: Could be the Orange, I've not had much positive experience with EL84 tubes creating "heavy, thick, and crushing tones". But then again my EL84 experience is only limited to a modified Jet City JCA20 and a VOX AC15. Not trying to diss your setup in any way my friend but alot of that tone that your going for in doom music comes from the amps used, those huge watts are whats needed to push the low end that creates those heavy and thick tones. That might be why you've tried alot of pedals with little success.

truth be told, the Orange is a new addition and I have only used the above mentioned Sunmachine Colossus with it.

I think a Rat might work better with your amp. Because Muffs and Meatheads present so much low end like AA said. I'd even try a Rat with a clean boost after it. You might want to look into something like the Acid Age Rat or a Rat Tail or something since they have more variety to them then stock Rats, plus LED clipping and no clipping diodes are even more sounds to explore

To mix it up: Tone Machine without the octave engaged.
