Sorry if this is a dumb question.

I'm rejigging my music space at home around, and I've seen some low cabinet furniture which I plan to situate my amplifiers on top of (with cupboarded space below for storage). However, the furniture is made entirely of thin metal.

So my question is: will furniture made of metal interfer with an ampflier - and other guitar gear - in some undesirable way? Should one avoid it?

Short answer: Maybe. All amps are not created equal...

There may be some shielding against ElectroMagnetic Interference.
There may be some heightened sensitivity toward (EMI) or noise introduced

That said, installing metal "chimney" shields on preamp tubes change how they behave and affect sound by forming a capacitor because they act as a ground; attracting electrons to them.
Specs for "shield on" vs "shield off" capacitance were published by the tube mfrs.

More info can be found by searching them internets.

You can hopefully insulate 'em by using a rubber mat between 'em or something. Probably not a bad idea anyway.

Regardless of shelving material, you are decoupling the cabb from the floor, so you'll lose some low end. This will help isolate the cab better, but you may need to re-EQ.

Metal office-type stuff I've tried in the past.

Resonance in an unwanted sense was a problem sometimes, depending on volume and individual amps.
