If memory serves me correctly, plenty of you dudes have owned one. How was it?

I liked mine when I had it. The room and hall settings were good. The shimmer seemed to get a bit to trebly for my ears, ice picky. The shimverb pro they showed at namm def peaked my interest, haven't heard anything else about it though.

Before I get into my criticisms, let me say that I do dig mine, and supposedly there's a deluxe version in the works that I'm looking forward to getting.

There's no dry through, so it affects your tone a bit as soon as you kick it on. Sounds better in a loop mixed with a dry signal. The room and hall modes both have a high pitched ring to them that is difficult to dial out unless you have an EQ or filter after it. It sounds cool, but it's a little jarring and you might not always want it there. I wouldn't call either of them great, but I wouldn't hesitate to use them. The shimmer mode is a fifth up instead of an octave, which doesn't work so well adding it to old songs, but it's good if you're writing new stuff around it. It sounds good for what it is: very pleasant. The last portion of the level knob on all modes cuts your "dry" signal a bit for swells, but it's very prominent on shimmer mode. Works awesome for washed out shoegaze and ambience.

In conclusion, it wouldn't be a good choice if it's your only reverb, but it has some cool sounds in it if you want to add some variation or character.

I had one for a few months because it was the only mini reverb I could find.

Gotta say, it didn't impress me. The room mode was the best. Of all the settings, it had the most realism. Unfortunately I don't really like room reverb...
Wasn't a fan of the spring. Big disappointment because that's my favorite reverb usually. Just no "spring" sound. More like a longer tail than the room.
The shimmer was just odd. Like kaeth said, it isn't something you can add to any song. You would have to write for it.

Overall I just didn't think it was worth the price. It's, what, $88 usually? I would rather save up for a more realistic reverb. It wouldn't cost much more and you could get more useful settings from it. Personally I would rather grab a Boss RV-5 secondhand.

What kinda Verb are you wanting Bloo???

I like natural sounding springy verbs, lush hall-y things, and don't get way out there with my verb sounds anyway. Putting the finishing touches on my lap steel board. I like ones that sound as close to old Fender-style reverb as possible, and be 100.00 or so, if that exists

my pop bought one of those when he thought he wanted to learn guitar. I sort of remember liking the sound of my old big box holy grail better. But I don't want the volume drop of it. I'll probably go with an RV-5 off the Big Bay if no nice person has one in b/s/t

+1 on thinking the shimverb's not bad for a simple 'verb. & as bloog knows from chat i gots a lotta 'verbz...

I love my '63 Boss Faux Tank, no volume drop issues at all on it - it thins stuff out if you hit the mix hard, just like a real one, and it's not a 'only verb' thing... but I like mine a ton.

If I wanted a more general useful one I'd go with one of the X-series Digiverbs. Cheap, decent, and options even if you don't use 'em.

I like the Shimverb. It's nice at the end of a chain for a room sound or spring sound. The octave/shimmer sucks. It's not the greatest before dirt (the best is the Holy Grail, I don't care what people say that shit slays in front of dirt) but I don't have any quams other than the shimmer sucking with the Shimverb. It's always on at least one of my boards
