so I built this guy on a breadboard

exactly the way it is on there
but alls I get is clean or cute overdriven sound, no trem.
any ideas?

Either the schematic or breadboard layout is wrong, you've hooked it up wrong, or you've got one or more defective parts.

Let's assume the scheme and parts are all good: The fact you've got guitar signal suggests that the audio stage (Q1 input buffer and Q2 BJT) is working OK, so have a closer look at the LFO Q3 and the connecting FET Q2.

thats the kind of response I was hoping for.
I checked every part before putting it on the board, they're all gravy.
gonna turn caps around and see if tht does anything lol

You can put an LED between the R12 and the C5, C3, Q3, R13 junction Anode to the resistor, Cathode to the junction and the LED will show you the rate of the LFO. The LFO sends a pulse to the Q2 JFET which acts as a variable resistor with C4 creating a bypass that varies the gain of the Q2 BJT. The Q2 JFET acts like the gain control on a Fuzz Face type circuit if that helps you visualize what's going on. You may try increasing the value of R9 also. I've built the improved version from GGG several times and I usually just use a trimmer to set what is R9 in this schematic to taste.

Other than what's said in the great replies from Nocentelli and Dr Satan, the only help I can offer is to breadboard it myself and see if I have the same issue. Will report back

secondly, I've got the led reacting to the LFO speed, its a cute pink LED. Important detail. Pink.


anyway, same thing. It's reacting to the knob speed just fine but I still have no trem :/

heh, so R11 should be going to ground and not power.
now...I just have to figure out how to give it more depth, the effect is barely noticeable. like barely

Lower R11, try different FETs in place of the 5457.
