Cheap Bass Suggestions

Sup everyone. After significant resistance to the idea, I've decided that I need a new bass to record with (my current fretless has too many tuning issues) so I'm looking for some suggestions on the low end.

My price range goes up to about... $350? (including tax)
If there's a significant increase in quality maybe I can stretch to $400, but I don't want to spend that much if I don't have to.

My favorite basses are Precision basses but honestly considering my price range I'm open to just about anything as long as it as decent quality.

Due to the shitty selection (read: practically nonexistent) of basses in stores near me, I am limited to ordering one online.

Please halp. :)

If you like Precision basses, I'd check out the Squier Matt Freeman model. I've heard rave reviews of that thing. I haven't played one myself, as I'm not a P guy.

Yup, newer Squiers are pretty nice.

If you don't mind used, hit up TalkBass, you might be able to score a G&L Tribute or something along those lines.

Oh yeah if you can snag a Tribby G&L, they sound beastly. That's what I'm rocking right now.

When I was a bass player in a death metal band I had a modulus q6, a Cort curvebow, and the bottom of the line ibanez sound gear. HAlf of the gigs I didn't trust my my modulus at, and the Cort and ibanez did great. Just re Eq'd my svt pro and went to town head banging. The Cort even had some decent active pickup in it. The little cheapie ibanez was awesome and a fucking work horse. That thing took a beating and loved it. My ex still has that thing. It's so metal you can cut down trees with it. Like an axe. Word.

I bought my old bassist's Squier P-bass for like $50 and have been using it for over a decade since. I've used it on recordings and live with great success. I was playing bass for a band once and when I showed up with it the guitarist scoffed and was like "that thing's never gonna stay in tune" and although I checked my tuning between every song, it was almost never off. The only time it gave me shit was during a hot humid outdoor gig. I recently gave it a fresh setup and it still rules. I recommend it.

Been considering this route (used G&L) since yesterday and if I can find a solid deal that seems legit I might just go this route. I tend to prefer new instruments but I might start my used instrument collection.

Over a decade, huh? That sounds pretty damn reliable... if I go the new route, I'll probably go with a Squier P-bass. It appears to be a solid option.

That Squier Bass VI is supposed to be $350 and they def handle the low end fine. My Custom Shop VI replaced my Jaguar Bass immediately, no need for both of 'em.

I have an Xaviere p-bass from GFS and I really like it, plays every bit as good as a mim fender right out of the box for like 200 bucks shipped.

The VM squiers are supposed to be great too.
