I'm f-in amazed by this band...all the way back to the early stuff...and now this.

Now I know why I can't stand the bands who are just copying the sound and the feel. Not much soul there.

The most positive thing about this is that Dylan and the band are still making amazing music...drugs or not drugs it always sounds great.

Much like Trent and NIN,IMHO,they just became better, after he sobered up. :idk:

I'm much more into Earth's early stuff - Earth 2 in particular. Their new stuff has been interesting, but I just like it better when they're loud

I think SunnO))) have done a really good job of taking that Earth style drone/doom stuff and introducing black metal and experimental ambient to create something truly different. And I love KTL!

That's "Divine and Bright" off of Sunn Amps and Smashed Guitars. Dylan Carson of Earth is the guy that bought Cobain the gun that he used to uhm...well...you know the rest...

And KTL are EEEEEEEVVVVIIIIIIIIIILLLLLLLL

mwahahahahaha!

Earth owns big time !!!. and KTL are really strong. I really love The Bees Made Honey In The Lion's Skull, but for me... HEX is their better work, it's like more disciplined and deep, and the artwork really adds up. Has any of you listened to Harvey milk's Courtesy and Good Will Toward Man? one of my all time favorites EASY.

P.S. Sunn 0))) & Boris's ALTAR owns.

to the untrained ear maybe they'll sound the same, but... to me

Pentastar is a good beginning
Hibernaculum is a great second
Bees made honey a good third
Hex is one of the best in a overall manner, strong shit, deep, meditative and comes to my mind a paraphrase to Johnny Cash's sound from the movie... something like "...sharp as a razor, heavy as a train..."

but again, Hibernaculum would be my recent favorite

on a different side and a different category by itself would be Earth 2

many years ago, in my teens i was infatuated (like many of us) with nirvana, so everything surrounding kobain was sharing a piece of the fame, Hole, jag-stangs... even walmart was flooded with flannels... so Earth was included in that rooster, i ever remember the first time i saw "Tallahasee" on mtv. That was a thing you didn't hear often in mtv! that fuzz coming out of the tv speakers, as many 1 hit bands in those years i forgot about those guys, but i still had that riff and fuzz in my head for many years until i decided to grab Pentastar and in that process i realized that many other albums had come out!! i even had a good laugh because somewhat i remembered that video while watching Rob Zombie's devils rejects.

GBF P.S.:
if you like Earth give a try to Bohren Und Der Club Of Gore, begin with Sunset Mission. Not the same genere, more like down tempo jazz+funeral dirge+Noir film, but has that strange dark vibe...

One of the most amazing concerts I've seen was with Earth followed by Sunn. Probably will remember it the rest of my life.

The only KTL album I have got is the selftitled album from 2006, but I've heard amazing things about their newer albums. Is it still the same style in the newer ones? The one I have got a tiny bit boring after the awesome first track.

Burial Chamber Trio is another band worth mentioning in this context I think. Greg Malcolm, Attila Csihar and Oren Ambarchi! Doesn't get much better than that, except for all of Ambarchi's other wonderful projects and solo things

I believe that KTL 1 and KTL 2 are both culled from the same recording sessions, since it was a project for a piece of theatre or something like that. I *think* KTL 3 and 4 are both original recordings, but I could be wrong on this. I haven't heard 3 or 4 yet, but if anything I'd say that KTL 2 is quite a bit darker and bleaker than the first one. Yeah, I think it does get a bit repetitive after a while, but only if you sit and listen to the whole thing in one go. Pick out individual pieces and I think some of the sounds are astonishing.

I haven't yet heard Burial Chambers Trio - working on that. I hear Aethenor are well worth a look as well.

So much music, so little money... :erm:
