It's not about safety, it's about revenue.

Every time they talk about the 'speed cameras' here they never say that accidents have decreased, they say that they've gotten more than x 100s of thousands in fines.

Tickets are a major way to fill budget gaps...they'll give them whenever possible depending on how the state economy is.

True I once had a gig where people were parking in the streets because so many people showed up.... then the police came and told us to shut it down even when people moved their cars. Then when we were packing up, they had the nerve to tell us to hurry up or we'd be charged with loitering.

In my Social Problems class we discussed how police are trained to be suspicious and trained how to think.... I think that's messed up. Not that I was naive, but just throwing it out there.

What about the cop who shot a guy in the back, killing him, in Oakland this New Years Eve?
The whole thing was in front of a crowd, and was caught on cell phone cameras from multiple angles.

Wow I didn't get any news of this (then again I try not to watch the news, which has it's pros and cons). That just doesn't seem right, especially in front of all those people. Has there been any more news on the reasons he shot him? The only thing I can think of is if the guy had a weapon...

Most policemen I know are assholes. They became cops so they could be even bigger assholes with a badge.

That and...amadou diallo anyone? was scary being around nyc at the time. Unarmed dude was shot 41 times. 2 cops even reloaded and emptied another clip into him.
They got away with it.

The dude was laying on his stomach, surrounded by cops.
There was no justifiable reason to shoot, or even taze the guy in the back.

Apparently, the entry wound was non-fatal, but the bullet came out, bounced off the ground, and killed him.

Apperently, word on youtube is the cops excuse is he thought he had his tazer or stun gun out instead of his ACTUAL gun.

But considering the guy was cuffed ON the ground...no reason to taze the guy either...

The newscast said the cop had a kid like 2 days after that happened.

Another thing regarding tasers, I have been tased, not by a cop, but I have been tased. Those motherfuckers HURT. Now, if someone REGARDLESS of occupation, is coming at me with a taser, I am running the fuck away. NOW, doesn't that defeat the point of the police even HAVING tasers?

Tough problem. What type of society would we have without a police force? In my experience, people are generally douchebags who will stomp on your throat to get a $10 bill floating in the breeze. Unfortunatly, the people interested in doing the dirty work are people who want power. The same is true for politicians. The politician who most wants to rule should never be allowed to do so.
