How hard are they to remove? I have some nicer stickers (ilf and straight pedge) that I sort of want to throw onto my jag until I don't feel like it anymore. Are they a bitch to successfully remove?

Depends on the material and how long you leave 'em... Some will fuck the finish but they aren't hard to remove and you shouldn't care, PUNK IT UP...

Vinyl stickers are usually easy to take off with heat. Paper stickers are the worst. Ive put stickers that I thought would be okay on guitars but the adhesive was awful and damn near impossible to get the residue off without chems. Id say do it if youre feeling it. Kills resale value but if its your players choice axe, do it.

Untested idea, but I would try this, presuming a nitro finish or some manner of poly or urethane:

1) Buy shellac clear sanding sealer spray can (Bullseye at your typical Home Depot/Lowes).

2) Do masking around the spot on the guitar where you want to put the sticker with a narrow lip around where the sticker will go. Low tack painter's tape should do it.

3) Spray the shellac sealer on the spot, letting it dry per instructions.

4) Apply the sticker directly to the patch.

5) When you're done with the sticker years in the future, the sticker residue left over should be on the shellac. Which melts in alcohol, leaving you're non-goo-ed finish below.

Easy-peasy, just wet a paper towel with some alcohol and rub the paper away if it rips.

Similar to what Gone Fission said, I'd apply the sticker to a "base" made of blue painters tape
and use an Exacto to cut away the excess tape then apply that to the guitar.

The painters tape won't leave much if any residue when you decide to remove it.

If this were a $500 guitar instead of a $1800 guitar, I'd say "fuck it" and put the sticker on directly.

I'd only use vinyl stickers on em. The paper ones suck. Theres an ilf/fuzzugger sticker on all my guitars :)

Some how this was never as easy for me. I think it depends on the adhesive. Ive managed to get the paper off but the adhesive seemed to stick to itself and just smear. :idk: I think it was a big d and the kids table sticker that did this.

DO ITTTT. BE COOL MANNNN. PUT SOME LISA FRANK UP ON THAT JAG.

But in all seriousness, I sold a Squier 51 to my friend and it was covered in stickers. He removed them no problem, I'll have to ask what he used.
