I just read that a new band called "Tinted Windows" has formed.
The members are:

James Iha (Smashing Pumpkins guitarist)
Bun E. Carlos (Cheap Trick drummer...one of my absolute heroes, and biggest drumming influences)
Taylor Hanson (From the kiddie band Hanson)
Adam Schlesinger (Fountains Of Wayne bassist)

Weird.

Apparently, the album is done, and they're unveiling the live show at South By Southwest.

Hmmmm. I have no idea what to think. :?:

According to a source close to the band, Taylor Hanson will be the primary singer, and the album has an “old-school, naive, young, bubblegum power-pop” sound. Iha has apparently mentioned the Buzzcocks and the Knack as influences.

Whoa. That is a crazy lineup.

I will say this: that Hanson kid's been playing & singing since he's been able to stand - hypothetically, if he's developed good taste, he should certainly have the chops by now to get it across. And if those particular folks have chosen to back him, I'll certainly give it the benefit of doubt... now let's see what it sounds like!

Well, Bun E. Carlos and James Iha are both Illinois cats. Maybe that accounts for part of it?

wow did not expect that when i clicked on this thread......

apparently another connection:
Schlesinger and Iha co-own Stratosphere Sound Studios (along with Ivy’s Andy Chase), where Tinted Windows recorded their debut.

this really sounds like the hanson kid was recording a new record and the band was put together around that, likely after it was recorded.

- Fountains Of Wayne opened for Smashing Pumpkins during the Infinite Sadness Tour in the US (I saw them in Cincinnati during that tour)... and got signed on Scratchy Records (owned by James and D'Arcy).
- Cheap Trick is really close to the Smashing Pumpkins, specially with Billy... they played several shows together since 1995.

That's great! Billy doing his best Rick Nielsen impression, with the checkered Explorer, wacky sweater, and flipped-up bill.
One of my favorite guitarists/songwriters of all time. Rick, that is.
