First of all: Hello I am new here. Nice to meet you all. Pedal br0z unite.

So I love the fact that I can get these super fast, ferked up repeats on the Memory man w/Hazarai. Reminds me of a cracked out DD3. And I love the fact I can fade in repeats or keep them all the same level so they don't fade out. The whole multi tap section functionally is very cool but only 3 presets (sort of) of this type is a pain! I also like how you can mix reverb into the repeats and that the reverse section has more options than usual.

My issue, as stated above, is that the preset aspect of this delay is far too limiting and I think honestly the tone can be kinda crapola sometimes. Also it sucks tone like a mofo, especially from my fuzzes.

I want to replace it. I have a hard time telling what delays out now are capable of the "fade in or no fade out at all" thing. I use that a lot. So far I know the Superdelay can do it but with only 4 repeats. Plus only 8 presets is a little worrisome. Can the Timeline cop some of these tones? The Delaylab? Timefactor? Something else?

It seems Delaylab covers the more interesting reverse options and adding reverb to delay from what I can tell but I dunno about the fade in/all same volume stuff. I use that the most. The manual for the DL isn't much help.

With delay the most widely used one that gets praise up and down is the Strymon Timeline.

You have to remember that with most delay units, they have a huge range of options. It's the only effect that in my experience can differ greatly from pedal to pedal.

You also might want too look into the Empress Superdelay, best sounding reverse I have laid my grubby paws on.

My Vox DelayLab is arriving in the mail tomorrow, so I can let you know how that goes. It's a lot like the DL-4 but with 30 or 40 presets? Something like that. I'd go for a Timeline, but I bet the Delaylab and DL-4 do most of what that does, just in a much more limited capacity.

I suggest keeping the hazarai, and getting a cheaper (or expensive) analog delay. I have found the hazarai's shit isn't really out there.

I realized after getting rid of it that it's "tone loss" is really just a character of the pedal for me and it does certain things I haven't found anywhere else

Advice: Don't do it! There's a large group of us on here that have had a Hazarai, sold it, and regret it later. There are some downsides, but as mentioned, there isn't much out there that can do the same stuff. I keep kicking around the idea of getting another Hazarai. Maybe I will one day.

Well I would probably keep the Hazarai for studio stuff. Can anything out there approximate these sounds for live sake? Seems like the superdelay is about the only option.

Not me. It's a good pedal, but I feel like it didn't do any of the extra weird stuff that the DL-4 did. I wasn't a huge fan of the modulation of the SMMH, either. It was too goofy. The best part was the looper, and there are many other pedals that can loop and so much more. More presets being a key.

Guilty here, but i've managed to snatched another one after I regret selling it. So let me keep it simple... KEEP IT! Nothing does what hazarai does, it's a magical pedal. When you think it sucked your tone, you might as well just have to suck it, watch that sucky mix knob and crank up your amp louder!
Been through soo many delay pedals, sold everything and keeping the hazarai and re-20, if that means something for you. Just get another delay pedal to complement it, cos you NEED it!

everyone that says keep it is right. mold yourself to the pedal, not the other way around. youll just spend your time endlessly chasing "tones" instead of playing and creating.

Well to be fair echo, I love the tone of this pedal for what it is. A fucked up delay robot with a bad stutter. And I certainly have shaped myself to it, or else it wouldn't be so darn hard to let go! But excelling at normal delays it does not. And saving multiple presets per mode it does not. I'm no cork sniffer. I'm chasing live performance practicality and versatility not tones here. What the SMMH does well it does VERY well, but it isn't a jack of all trades like a Timeline/Timefactor. I figured I would have to buy a delay to add to it but I was hoping I could bypass that and just stick to one delay live if something could approximate the sounds. Sounds like I'm out of luck. I figure I will have to make print out sheets with knob settings/holes cut out and do this the old fashioned way.

yeah.. just keep it fun, effective & efficient! Work on your songs more instead and make the pedals be your slaves

so, are you looking to have a bunch of presets that are footswitchable for live use?

I feel like I am getting the gear/music n00b treatment here. Though I suppose I am a n00b to the world of posting on ILF.

I'm not looking for advice on how I must become one with a pedal or how I must change my outlook on making music. It's just not helpful or related to what I am asking dudes and honestly comes off as slightly condescending! It assumes that I have not already "been there", ya know?

I haven't begun to dislike what I like about it.

I just wan't to know if I can cop *some* of the sick nasty freak out tones similar to a SMMw/H from something with a more live friendly interface and better traditional delay tones/application. Lawdy.

"Keeping it" doesn't really solve the issue of not being able to keep up with all the twiddling between and during songs. Trust me I milk this fucker. I have had it for 4 years and I'm getting tired of putting up with it's shit I guess.

I love it for what it excels at.

I didn't know if a Delaylab, or say a Timeline on Ramp trem mode or a Timefactor or something could cover some of this ground.
