And its fantastic. I really wasnt prepared for the volume this thing puts out....it really is disgustingly loud but you can take it right on down to bedroom levels. Theres a problem though....theres this really highpitched hum (it almost sounds like an oscillator) that comes through whenever you have the treble up at all. If you roll it back to no treble you cant hear it until you turn the volume up really loud. At first i thought it was one of my pedals or the one spot but no dice so then i tried all the instruments i own....same story. Also if you turn the treble pots on your instrument up it does it. Heres the noise, at first i thought it was my lavender head but ive come to find out the filter on the LH just amplifies it.

Just to be clear... you have plugged into direct with no effects and it still does that when the treble on the amp is turned up?

Hmm sounds like a call to Ben is needed? I've heard that he's pretty responsive.

Ok so ive messed around and basically the amp is dead silent as long as you have everything on the preamp dialed to zero. With or without an instrument and with the volume dimed or at like 1 there is no hum but as soon as you fuck with the EQ you get this hideous buzz that wouldnt be that is pretty noticeable when you have the amp up loud but then if you have any pedals on is just outrageous.

It does it regardless whether or not anything is even plugged into the amp.

shit dude, I thought you were PNW for some reason. That makes it a bit more sucky. I'd swap the tubes and then if that doesn't work, hopefully you have a good teck in your area. :(

I can't comment on the high pitched whine, haven't heard anything like it with my Loucks but I do know Ben is very responsive if/when issues present themselves. I'd suspect a bad pre tube, first things first. Shipping that hefty beast back for inspection is probably the last thing I'd wanna do, hopefully it won't come to that.

I can completely relate to the "disgustingly loud" comment though. That Loucks is the loudest 100W I've ever heard but amazingly still sounds great at bedroom-ish levels using clean settings and pedals unless you kick in the boost/extra gain stage, then you're in small to medium sized room volume immediately. The dirt settings just need to scream, nothing less will suffice.

Can't imagine 300W, geez louise, you got a 1/2 power option on that sumabitch?!?

I'd second checking the preamp tubes, I've had a similar issue with my old model T reissue and it ended up being a preamp tube. But like has been said atleast 5 times now email Ben! He's always gotten back to me with the quickness and even sent me parts for free to fix my skyhammer pre. Definitely a top notch builder.

and I believe he got a 1/3 power switch (from 6 tubes to 2 and 300w to 100w).
