Cabinet wiring question

This most likely extremely stupid, but the wire I have is rated to 50 volts.
Will that handle a 200 watt SS head?
I have no clue about voltage in cabs.

You could probably use the formulas here to calculate the minimum wire gauge you'd need (formulas are toward the bottom of the page). I used 240v 10A mains cable for my bass cab...you could cut up an extension lead if you had to. Without doing calculations, I'd say its probably a little on the thin side.

It's 14 gauge wire, so it should be thick enough.
But it says rated for 50 volts, I didn't even know volts were measured in cabs.

Maybe the voltage rating has something to do with the thickness or quality of the insulation? Just a shot in the dark.

14 gauge should be plenty for 200 watts, IMO.

I'm going to use my smaller amp to see what's what.
I'll report back in the morning.

ohms law guys ohms law. 8ohm speaker, 50v wire, the most watts it can handle is 312.5w @ 6.25A. this is only true if the amp never puts out anything more than 50v absolute value peak. I have no idea what the voltage swing is on a power output for an amp sorry.

According to Nick from Dunwich, I'm good to go.
It's just a rating on the insulation.

you can figure out the voltage swing using the power output from the amp and the speaker load. If the power is say 100W and the speaker is 8 ohm. P = V^2/R.

Some algebra gets you V = +(P*R)^(1/2)

V = ~28.28V max

Damn. How did I not think of that?...2 hours of sleep last night.

I'm running at 4 ohms.
The amp is doing 250 watts.
Should I be concerned?
Edit: Never mind, just did the math.
Approx 31 volts.
According to what I see, no amp in existence would exceed the rating.

Potentially if used a 16 ohm load and 300W but you can always get new wire for the cab no problemo
