The Comedians of Comedy / stand up comedy

Any fans of stand up comedy in the house?
I haven't been to a whole lot of comedy shows, but I'm having a totally comedy filled month.

First I went to see Patton Oswaldt (Comedians of Comedy)...who I'm a fan of. He was freakin hilarious!!

Then I got hired to play drums for Robert Smeigel's TV Funhouse Live featuring Triumph The Insult Comic Dog. Robert writes the TV Funhouse bits on SNL, and is the voice of Triumph. That was a funny, interesting gig. Cool to see the behind the scenes of the comic world.

For doing that gig, I got the promoter to hook me up with tix to see Zach Galifianakis (Comedians of Comedy) who I really dig and wanted to see. Bob Odenkirk (Mr. Show),Chris Hardwick, and Paul F. Tompkins also performed. I laughed so hard my stomach muscles were sore the next day.

I'm for sure going to make a habit of supporting quality comedians. It's such good therapy. I highly recommend it. :haha:

I love comedy. I remember when they'd have Friday Night Stand up night on comedy central and you know it actually started at like 7/8pm so there was more comedy. I started out with nick swardson, kevin james, and Jim gafigan (back when he was skinny and not into hot pockets).

I'm pretty much a fan of any decent comedian, I love patton oswalt and zach.

Some of the most interesting videos on youtube to me are when Charlie rose interviews comedians. :thumb:

Comedy central is one of the only stations I watch. Nice that they are playing a bit more standup these days.

Patton and zach are funny dudes...same with Nick Swardson. I also dig when they show up in reno911 (coincidence? :haha: )

+1 for pre-hot pocketjim gaffigan (what happened :idk: )

I also dig some of the latino comics like Gabriel Iglesias...and George Lopez. Yea he had a cheesy tv show but he's a funny dude. And his stories of his mom/grandmother remind me of growing up with my cuban grandmother.

Mitch hedberg was a funny dude, I can't believe he ranked 14th on that stupid "stand up showdown" comedy central did

I still like Jim Gaffigan.... I just really liked his first show the best. "If we gave the aliens a cold....... this tastes like wax!"

Demetri Martin i think is worth a mention. He as a new series coming up on Comedy Central, i hope it's good. Hopefully it'll be as successful as the chappelle show.

I like the political stuff. George Carlin, Lewis Black, etc.

I also REALLY like Mitch Hedburg (been mentioned.)

Bill Hicks was great, shame what happened.

I like Jim Gaffigan (I didn't know he had pre-Hot Pocket work! I must investigate further.)

I think all "those guys", Oswalt, Posehn, Bamford, and Galifinakis (SP?) are funny... And they were all on Tim & Eric Awesome Show Great Job, which I am quite fond of as well...

Actually, I'm a big fan of Williams Street shows in general (shows like Assy McGee and Robot Chicken being the exceptions)...

But I don't like Family Guy, hee-hee... or Dane Cook, for that matter.

I'm a total paradox with Dane Cooke. I don't know why I like him and I don't know why i don't like him either. :idk:

I think what might bother me about him, is he gives the impression he's doing it for the chicks.

It's amazing, I like Dane Cook, but every once in a while I go on YouTube and look up other comics. Whenever I find something old, I usually hear something he's stolen. But he usually makes it funnier, so I'm okay with it.

Yeah its kind of stupid when someone claims a comedian stole jokes when every other comedian has a bit on "bless his heart." Certain comedians all talk about the same thing anyways.

Mitch Hedberg ruled. R-I-P

I can't stand Dane Cook. He's just not clever. Let alone original. He's not funny. He just yells real loud and startles people into nervous laughter. He's like some frat tool at a frat party trying to be funny after a few beers.....except not as good.

I liked Dane Cook, then I watched his Vicious Circle thing and I didn't laugh once. At all.

I guess I just grew up and being a dick stopped being funny.

If that's not stolen I don't know what is.

I don't think thats stolen, thats just how you deal with hecklers. There's a video somewhere of Kurt Cobain stopping in the middle of a song, walking into the audience to stop a guy from groping a woman.... then the bouncers took him outside and the band made fun of him. I'd say the exact same thing if I were a comedian being heckled, get the fuck out.

However when I was heckled as a musician, I turned my amp up to ten and turned on every pedal I had and sang "I want to fuck the hecklers in the audience, I'd be a happy man, I wish I was a leprechaun so i could do all the things i want to do to you." Then later on I told them they made me pro-choice right before my think-about-it-abortion song.

Hecklers can go to hell, and I don't care if you're original or not in dealing with them, they're assholes and should be thrown out. Although they made my live recording much more fun.
