I've been looking at retubing my amps.

For a set of 4 on ebay it's under $100. Has anyone had any before/have any?

I have EHX EL34's in my OR right now, probably anything is an upgrade haha.

My old amp used SED Winged =C= EL34s and those things sounded fantastic, believe they were owned by Svetlana at the time, around $130-$160 per matched quad.

My newest EL34, a Verellen Loucks, uses JJs. I've had luck with every JJ I've tried honestly, the KT88s, 6V6s, EL84s, and now the EL34s. They last forever, sound great, and don't cost much relatively speaking. That said, I heard awhile back that many EHX tubes are just rebranded JJs or vice versa. Not sure how accurate that is but if so, you may want to avoid JJs......

Really...? Hmmm. I was totally under the impression that EHX was "the lowest of the low" in tube quality. I am fairly new with replacing tubes/what tubes to get etc. I just think it's time to retube them because it's been a while and I play both of my amps for hours everyday pretty much at full power.

I was looking at these because on the back of my Mat it mentioned "Svetlana EL34's"

EHX/New Sensor bought the Svetlana name a while back (don't recall how many years ago) and put it on their own tubes. The real Svetlana stuff tends to be identifiable by the "winged C" logo that they still use for non-Svetlana branding. Great tubes, the EL-34s. Replaced German Siemens tubes in an 80's English Hiwatt channel switcher with early brown-based EL-34s (late 90s production) and the thing sounded like a Hiwatt for the first time.

Here's the legit Svetlana/SED "winged C" EL34 for reference. Looks like they're still around $150-$160 per matched quad from most sellers but if they have that =C= logo, should be good to go....

I had some Svetlana el34's and I didn't think they were any good. Specially in an amp with high voltage. They are just as cheap as other New Sensor tubes. Luckily I had a quad of vintage Mullards I was able to swap them with, which are non comparable.

For modern made tubes, I would definitely look into Winged =C= EL34's. I've had bad luck with everything else besides older made tubes. Granted, all my amps eat modern tubes like nothing from their high voltage. But if I had to buy new, I'd look into those Winged =C= tubes.

I just retubed my amp (Egnater Tweaker 40) with Svetlana 6L6s and 12ax7s. It sounds a little clear-er/less muddy with these over the stock version. Before, it had some weird mish mash of Tung-Sol, Ruby tubes, and some other brand with the Egnater logo on each one. I guess it worked but with these new tubes, I like a lot more mids and bass than I did before and I don't need as much treble. I don't if that helps much but its all svetlana tubes. Still sounds like the same amp though, just had to EQ it a bit differently.
