New Staytrem BASS VI Bridge. FINALLY!

Post by Holy Schnikes »

First off, I need to thank ILF user DADGBD for alerting me to this bridge, had no clue it existed and was all geared up to use a Mastery on mine. That option sucked because the original bridge, as most know, was a full 1" in width allowing proper intonation and until now, nothing was available beyond a pricey vintage part I couldn't track down anyway. Regardless, the Mastery would've been light years ahead of the stock vintage offset Fender bridge, pure junk in my experience, time to move on with that one Fender, vintage correctness be DAMNED!

I contacted John at Staytrem late last night and he notified me that a prototyped first batch was due this Tuesday and they'd be going on eBay. If they sell well and receive good feedback, he plans to make them more regularly available. I jumped at the chance to buy one via pre-order, comes to around $110 US shipped, not a bad price at all when compared to the Mastery (which I also love but it's just not appropriate in this situation).

Anyway, excited to check it out. I've installed Staytrem's trem bar and collet on my CS Jazzmaster and it made a world of difference, well thought out design. This bridge looks equally badass. If anyone else with a Bass VI or the new Pawn Shop version is after a proper new production bridge, here's your chance. :thumb:

Interesting. Might need to get one for my next BVI-stringed axe, if it's closer to Fender this time.

My Gretsch has flaws of its own BUT the Bigsby trem isn't one of them. It just might be an exceptionally good piece, compared to others with equally crap quality control ;) .

I just installed the Staytrem bridge tonight and it's perfect. :thumb:

Install is simple, fit is great, saddles are machined beautifully, both resonance and sustain are increased, and accurate/correct intonation is easily achievable. Much like John's trem bar and collet, this bridge is simply yet smartly designed, even the Allen wrench has a unique machined end that makes seating it and adjusting post height simple and smooth. Only complaint I could see logging is the lack of saddle height adjustment but you specify radius upon ordering and it measures perfectly with a gauge on my 7.25" fretboard so no issues there for me, not really an essential feature on this instrument.

Awesome! Can't get enough of that bass VI. I'm still loving my ordinary jag one, and I agree about the lack of height adjustment, there's no need for it when the bridge fits the neck radius so well.

Hey! Would you care to develop a bit further on why a mastery wouldn't have been appropriate?
thanks :)
