I'm not the brightest bulb in the box, but I'm going nuts trying to figure out my LED/resistor values.

If I err, which direction do I err? Do I choose a higher value or a lower value for my resistors?

always err higher. too low and the LED will burn out. if you know the specs of the LED, just google "LED calculator' and there are formulas to figure out the best value.

if your are using any of the high brightness LEDS, such as you get at smallbear or pedal parts plus, my personal preferences for the resistors are

green - 33k
blue, white - 22k
red - 10k
orange, yellow - 4.7k

first rule of DIY electronics:

'if there's no smoke, you're not trying hard enough.'

this is out there, for me. i've never used anything but 1k, 2.2k, 4.7k and i've never seen an LED blow.

i didn't even know leds needed resistors...i put a super bright pink led in my triangle muff build last week with no resistor and I am using a power supply. I think the led is rated for 12v....it was a little bigger around than a normal led. I would hate to blow considering it looks fuckin awesome....plus there is no color more appropriate for a big muff other than pink.....
