this is a useless thread. much like my day will be.

That's also the best part of living with a toddler. And it's usually about as easy to use reason when dealing with a toddler as it is dealing with neighbors...

the first time it happened, i woke up 5am to get ready for work (they had gone to sleep by that point) and put on the remastered version of depeche mode's 'speak and spell' album as loud as i could. they were quiet for months after that... i thought they had learned.

Ha! I used to have to do stuff like that in college... through dumb bad luck, as a sophomore I got put in a dorm full of seniors who all wanted to start an unchartered frat. That was also the year I got a mohawk. They didn't know what to do with me. It was bad news. There were keg parties in the hall literally outside my door Wednesday through Saturday, and I didn't drink. So I started blasting Ministry, "The Land of Rape and Honey" on a regular basis. Generally, by about halfway through "Stigmata," they'd at least move the party down the hall away from my door.

Do what I do.

1) Get a good distortion pedal
2) Place your amp face up
3) Plug in your pedal of doom, and turn it on
4) Place guitar on amplifer face down
5) Turn everything on
6) Crank EVERYTHING to 10!
7) Leave

Whenever you return, convince them you thought it was the fire alarm.

And NOW we have no neighbors...

I sleep with a fan on in my bedroom to create white noise and mask the noise of my neighbors. I'm the guy who goes to bed at 3AM......but they wake up and get ready at 3:30 AM. We both keep weird hours, so I figure we're even.

The bottom line is, it's apartment living/city living.....noise comes with the territory. If you can't tolerate noise, rent a house, or an apartment in a complex with old folks. Or buy some earplugs (highly recommended).

All the passive-aggressive "blast your stereo" stuff seems a little juvenile. You could always try communicating with them face-to-face.

....although I do support blasting "Speak and Spell" as a concept on its own.

I downloaded Merzbow's pulse demon for a similar reason, but sadly I chickened out after about five minutes. I really don't want to antagonize anybody and end up with a noise violation fee. My neighbors don't really throw keggers though, they just like to play rock band 2 at annoying loud low decibel levels at 4 am. I'm seriously think this situation is going to end in murder suicide .

I live in an apartment complex, now... I hate it. Everyone wants to meet me or know me... I can't play loud enough for me to give a shit. This is the first time I've ever had to be a bedroom player. It's horrible.
