ive vented the story of this ric copy enough
lets just move on
and decide how to proceed
i stripped an explorer years ago
and it ended up being a sad disaster
ive done enough furniture by now
to know how to be gentle
but im worried about the binding
should i go chemicals or heat gun
would like to end up with a flat grainy finish
like aa's dirgemaster
viewtopic.php?f=188&t=2333&hilit=telemaster&start=4410or just rattlcan over the existing finish
later on we can talk about
pickups,tuners,new electronics,etc
im not gonna jump on it right away
got a few things to finish up before i tear it down
thanks guys

I would probably use a heat gun or actually just go at it with a sander. If your going to stain it like my dirgemaster then you need to get through all the sealer and clear coat so you can get down to the actual wood. I'm afraid of how chemicals would act with the binding personally.

Heat gun or chemicals will damage the binding. If you are looking to keep it simple I would get an orbital sander and some sanding blocks for the edges of the neck.
Nice sanding blocks can be gotten at an auto paint sales place. Sanding will take longer but will end up nicer. I would absolutely stay away from chemical strippers as they can soak into the wood and then react with the new finish.
http://projectguitar.ibforums.com/ is a great resource for ideas and how to. Some very talented people there.

Set it on fire! Cooked fiddles look badass. The clear will melt and bubble so it will have a caramelized look to it over the natural color.

lets just say well enough
is a big yellow bass
that i aint gonna be able to sell
if indont make a plan
im gonna get pissed one day
and spray it in the bed of my truck
laying on bags of garbage
so heat gun the field
orbital sand the edges
then maybe throw it in a fire
everyone agrees no chemicals
good
i hate stripper

How does it sound? are the pups in there adequate? I'll be looking forward to see what you come up with on this. I'd go crazy with it. Being that its a copy there's a bunch of stuff you could do that you might not want to do to a real one.

the bridge pickp is real trebley
which i kinda dig
not like guitar twangy
its just real clear and bright
the neck fake toaster is more subdued of course
but it sounds good
i gotta put it through the bass amp loud
any awesome color ideas
heres mine
im thinkin heavy ebony stain w/red undertones or burst
flat charcoal with some artsy shit(doom room inspired)
the "im gonna git you suckabacker"
purlpe suede with a little fishbowl in the body
and a zebra print strap
maybe hang fuzzy dice off the neck

um... yes! also a non white pickguard like a metal or silver or even black would rock too.

something like this? I did a LP Axcess inspired build a while back. burst effect was fairly easy to achieve. (please ignore the rough route, twas before I possessed a router.

I did that with paints available at any auto store. making that happen with dye would be a bit more tricky. I used the tint paint they sell for turn signals
It's my favorite new trick. I'm using the same stuff on the bass rebuild I'm working on. I used some dye on that too though. The translucent qualities of that paint make doing the burst really easy. I suppose you could shoot a matte clear after the color and get a non glossy look. I like highly shiny stuff cuse every matte finished guitar I've ever owned ended up shiny where i rest my arm against it when playing and then it looks all fucked.
