good mastering plugins?

soooooo.... i'm thinking about either getting a Pro Tools setup or trying out the Solid Mix bundle from Native Instruments or a good mastering plugin that has presets?

i just want to do a decent mix of stuff i record at home. when we went into the (cheaaaaaap) studio last time running the results through a friend's Pro Tools rig with a few different mastering settings, made a WORLLLLLD of difference.

but, cheapest i could find Pro Tools 10 was $700. i'd rathhhhher not spend that. i don't know SHITS about mastering or eq'ing or mixing though.

soooooo.... sumphin' relatively cheap that has presets for idjits to add some good mixins touch of sheen?

meow?

Izotope Ozone :thumb: If you know anything about torrenting, then I think you can guess the how to get it on the cheapz.....

ProTools 10 has no built in Mastering capabilities (other then making your own mastering chain out of ITB effects that come with it), Ozone is a VSTi plugin that will work with any DAW and yield similar results. I use WAVELAB for my mastering as thats what its designed for, but its incredibly difficult to use.

If you use a Mac, you're in luck. Logic Pro has the best in box plugins of any DAW software and it's only $200.

If you're a PC user, I like Studio One Pro. It's not Pro Tools expensive but the plugins aren't quite as good as Logic's.

another one for Ozone. very easy to figure out, and they have a great read on mastering that was really helpful for me in understanding the concepts behind mastering.

but if u end up getting those NI plug-ins, keep me in the loop! i wanna know if they are worthwhile.

lol. dood, i don't know enough to give a good report on if it's good or not n

sweet. i'll check out Ozone. does it have presets? i'm realllly lacking in knowledge about mixy stuff, so presets to work off GOOD.

i'm kiiiiiind of against torrents. not only do i like paying people that do good work, but i have all legal stuff on my audio PC. don't want to fuck with weird viruses or anything hinky.

yah. i don't know much about Pro Tools either. i don't know what version my friend was running, but in the eq's there were some presets like Pop or Rokk Or Heavy.

lol. FUCK Logic. not only am i on PC, but when Logic went from PC to Mac i got stuck with like a g of Logic specific gear. that was suddenly useless.

Ableton Live 9 comes with a serious set of plugins that are awesome for mastering and is super easy to learn. I'd say it's got (of course arguably) the best stock plugins of any DAW, especially now that you get the Glue compressor. It's also gonna get you a lot of other uses.

If you do pro tools, can't go wrong with Brainworx EQs. They're available for every platform as well.

This limiter is amazing as well, we use it all the time. Very cheap and functional!

Ozone has a rack ton of presets for everything from "general rock master" to "cinematic surround" to even foley work presets. Plus theres a rack ton of downloadable presets. I totally understand wanting legit software and Ozone is generally cheaper then alot of other "mastering suites".

Cheap and works.

Here's another vote for iZotope Ozone. Just make sure your computer is up to par. It can be taxing on the CPU. Tons of great presets, mid-side options, multi-band compression, EQ, stereo widening, it's got the whole nine yards. Before you master though make sure your mix is decent (meaning plays well across multiple output sources). Mastering is icing on the cake. If your cake tastes like shit icing isn't going to help too much.
