Ring mod for dummies ..

Post by synthezatory »

Suggestions needed for a (somewhat) musical ring modulator pedals, for those who never dealt with it and to give a good start & fun impression. Advance versatility is a big plus

I can verify this. Never played one but this is what I hear. :thumb: If I were to get one just for tryingz, the ehx ring thing or the way huge ring mod look like pretty good and are cheaper.

also, I had a thread a while back that might have some interesting info in it for you!

Ibanez PM7 on saw tooth mode is a basically a ring-modulator. Cheap and flexible starting point before you get into the more expensive stuff.

Ring thing :thumb: You can tune the carrier frequency to match your input super easy, and it has a crazy pitch-shifter too! :!!!:

Okay, this is getting more and more interesting. I wonder why's that Randy more expensive than the MF-102, hmm...
Let's shorten up the options and tell me your top 3?

Also, you guys can point out of a cool ring modulation being used in a song somewhere?

When I saw this band the bassist made HEAVY use of be moog ring mod:

I immediately went home and tried to recreate his bass sound going wolf computer deluxe>mxr bass octave deluxe > ring thing set on square wave with the filter dimed and the carrier frequency set to a very high E. The results were MASSIVE :animal:

I've only used the ring thing and the copilot fx android, so I can't really weigh in on the Randy's revenge or the moog ring mod. I've heard good things, though...

How the fuck do I not own that album yet? Ugh.

I'm pretty sure the bass sound at the very end of this song incorporates the ring mod any maybe some pitch shifter?
I'm not really sure, but it sounds incredible.

I tried the Randy's Revenge but I didn't really dig it that much honestly, it sounds nice but also a bit weak when paired with my distortion / fuzz pedals.
The Copilot Planetoid did a way better job at handling drive.
On the other hand the Randy's Revenge does sound nice, clean and pure and besides sine wave it also has square wave ring mod, which is my favourite.
The coolest ring mod type sound I could get was with the Copilot Orbit so I ended up buying that.
good deals with: the_brow, phantasmagorovich, alexsga, DarkAxel, goroth, The Wood Wizard, Tendollarcat, vbps, monkeydancer, intothegroove, Brobee

I'll say it again, but I love the Moog Ring Mod. I don't think you can go wrong with one. It does have a giant footprint, though, so that's a bit of a pain.
Had a Co-Pilot Android for a while, and didn't find it nearly as usable as the Moog...
Never played one, but the Randy does sound incredible...Just haven't ever wanted to get rid of the Moog to try one out.

Yeah, for the price differences between randy's and the 102, I'll jump high and start with the mooger and see what's up from there
