Should I trade for this or...?

So I found a guy on Craigslist who wants to trade me either a Russian muff (the black one) or an old big box holy grail. In extremely torn between which one to get. My current project is a surf band with some punk elements so I could definitely use either. I figured I would use my rat for all my dirt needs but this muff is giving me second thoughts. As fr as the holy grail, I have a hardwire reverb that I've been using so far and I really like the sounds I get from it. Is the holy grail as lively or drip like the hardwire does?
Any input would be super appreciative.

This is more of a buy, sell, trade perspective but the black russian muffs have increased in value recently... and I'd personally trade for that. But maybe skullservant can get in here and speak for the grail? I haven't had the opportunity to play one. I do think the black russian muff would be an interesting addition to a surf set up though.

It's really a toss up in the air dude. Black Russians are pretty awesome and would be interesting to see in surf music, but at the same time Holy Grails sound great pre-dirt so you could always have a verb sandwhich with the Holy Grail and your Hardwire. Personally I'd go for the verb sandwhich, but it's your call! Totally depends on how clean/dirty you play

Oh dude verb sandwich. Sounds so good. I have a mellowtone cc/dc I think I'll put it before. Ah, I don't know man.
Any other opinions?

Do you play a lot of clean surf, or do you find yourself using dirt often? A muff into a rat also sounds awesome...

We're playing with some dirt not really high gain at all. I figured the muff would be for those haul ass moments.

By what you're saying it seems like you'd get more use out of the verb and use the dirt sparingly...
So I'd vote for the verb.
Personally I have 3 different dirt pedals on my board and sometimes I look down and think... Do I really need this? Probably not. But I tend to ignore that voice...
Now I don't know! Flip a coin

I've had the hardwire and holier grail. Hardwire was better.
Hardwire>Rat>Muff sounds tits.
And from a muhneez standpoint, a holy grail is like $50, black russian like $100.

I just want to hear that smooth black russian sustain on some surf leads.

Well I ended up getting the holy grail and I'm unimpressed.
Absolutely no drip at all. My hardwire stomps this thing in the ground. Also the guy gave me this ghetto power supply wih it and it makes a humming sound. My onespot makes the hum even louder.
It sounds ok before my dirt pedals but..overall feeling of meh. The volume drop is also super god damn annoying.
Think the ehx power supply would eliminate the hum? (Btw the hum is more of a 'eeeeeeeeeeeeehhhh' sound)

Sounds like a big box holy grail. Those do have a hum to them.... forgot about that.
