i'm talking about the older ones, when vht was fryette. ones with p50e speakers. anyone know anything about them? i found one for a good price and i need a new cab quick. i actually already have one vht cab that i bought totally stripped for $60 and it's a good cab, well made. i put vintage 30's in it and i really like it. but i don't know anything about the speakers they came with. so chime in if you know something. and what's a good price?

The P50E are quite a dry, clear sounding speaker. The tightness that Fryette/VHT amps are known for comes from the cabs and speakers, not just the amp. They have a relatively flat frequency curve, but sit in the mix like a traditional V30 or Greenback, with a slight low-midrange hump rather than the high-midrange hump and top-end sizzle of a V30. They break up sooner than the V30—but 200 watts in your 4x12 will not distort by much very at all. The low-end is extremely tight, even at high volumes and breakup, and there is a strong presence and dispersal of sound due to the front-loaded construction. The Eminence speakers will sound smoother and clearer at high volumes than a Celestion Vintage 30. That will be your main tone difference, from a guess. But this is all dependant on the fact that you're using a Deliverance cab. Put the speakers in a different cab and the results will vary, even in a Fryette/VHT FatBottom cabinet. i'm actually not sure if it's a deliverance or a fatbottom cab. i don't even know if the one i have is a deliverance or a fat bottom. how do you tell? the one i have had no jackplate or handles or anything when i bought it. no identifying information at all. the one i found for sale recently had that stuff, but i don't recall it saying if it was either of those.

Well, the only the difference I can see on pictures that visibly separates them is the black piping on the Deliverance and the white pipping on the FatBottom. The FatBottom also has a slight indent in the grill cloth. At the top of the cabinet the fascia is notched in a little. The FatBottom also has corners while the Deliverance doesn't, but that might not coordinate with yours.

Either way, the P50E speakers will work great in whatever cabinet you have. It's just the Deliverance is a fatter and warmer sounding cabinet while the FatBottom is a little more projectional and modern in tonality. The insides are different, but they're both front-loaded, which arguably has the biggest impact on tone.

Well, essentially, if you like a really tight punchy low-end and you tune down, the FatBottom is where to go. The Deliverance is warmer, more organic and less focused. I haven't actually A/B'ed them, so I'm really just relaying what others have said. I preferred the Deliverance cabinet. Either way they're both excellent.
