Advice on new guitar?

So, I'm selling my Univox Hi Flier Phase 3, it needs a little work and I don't want to bring a 40 year old instrument on tour with me.

I'm thinking about getting a guitar with humbuckers. Single coils have been nice to me but I want a thicker sound right now.

Any recommendations for something around 500 with humbuckers? I don't really want an SG or an LP. A Jaguar would be sweet though. I'm having a mental block  I can't think of any guitars :(

Also, reliable / ready to tour and take abuse.

I should probably just not make shitty threads like this and buy a Telecaster with humbuckers huh?

Don't Phase 3 Fliers have humbuckers?

Yes it does, but it 'needs' a new bridge, tuners, nut = /

I'd rather just trade it for something I wouldn't freak out about if I dropped. Someones offering me a black top jazzmaster + cash, probably gonna jump on that.

Yeah this is what I was going to suggest, too.
Never had one, but their reputation is good.

For tour/who cares but works, Squier is the choice of champions.

Given your offers, though, I'd take the blacktop and run.

Replaceable anywhere, can get a Squier as a backup instrument too.

Be happy for cheaps.

And welcome the dings (and stickers and whatever) that will make the guitar less desirable for some idiot methhead to take.

I ended up trading the Hi Flier for a Blacktop Jazzmaster + $100.

And then I bought an OCD. Seems ok.

What were the humbuckers on that Hi-Flier like? I heard they were pretty unique sounding.
