That awkward moment when...

...going into a music store becomes torture.
I just went into a local shop and tried out one of those Boss Power Stack pedals, and now it's got me wondering what I can do with it if I were to buy it. I've been using an Ibanez PD-7 for years, and I'm starting to like the Power Stack more. Even though it's got significant low end loss, I do kind of like the idea of changing my set up to use two pre-amps, a new one with Mid controls for the overdrive, then the SansAmp stuffs for clean. Then use a blender to put the two together.

For me going into the local music store is disappointing. They have lots of what I don't want and almost nothing of what I do want.
Sometimes they'll have a gem hidden in the used pedals they're selling and that's the only reason I go in. $100 big box polychorus, sign me up!

This pretty much.
I usually go in to play with synths to kill time when I'm bored. A friend and I once gathered a huge crowd in best buy, him on guitar and me playing a roland Gaia. Pretty sweet till employees told us to stop.

I ranted on another thread about idiots at Guitar Center. But suffice to say I mostly only go in there these days to buy picks, if I can help it. I always look at their used pedals but there's RARELY anything there that i want.

I've literally been told "You can't afford that" while asking to play an american standard strat in one of my locals. Which is mainly why I buy nearly all my shit off the internet.

I have a store nearby that has a whole bunch of unobtanium instruments (usually at least four Ric basses at any given time, often very rare), and has started ramping up on pedals. The manager has even asked me for advice on who to check out. Which makes it all the more painful when he starts stocking ILF builders (he's carrying EQD and Blackout now), and even though I can try the pedals out, I don't have the scratch to buy them. Arrrrrrrrrrrrrgh!

My local store actually isn't bad. They are friendly, knowledgeable, every person that works there plays in actual bands that gig regularly and what they have in stock is pretty cool. I don't buy from them much because Australian prices blow and I mostly buy online but every now and again I try and throw them some coin. It's kind of a classy joint as well so the greasy pubescent bumblefaces are afraid of entering.
In other news the Australian version of GC called Billy Hydes went broke recently, got bought out and shut down 70% of their stores. I don't think I even have one in my state anymore.
