Ryan so made this pedal after getting loaded up on pizza then doing a 6 hour gym session. Came at all Arnie-like and POW! Out popped the buffness.

Haha yeah, that's exactly right Greigy! I skipped the gym that day though because the pizzas were really heavy, I didn't wanna over-train...

We only made that one whale buffer, long time ago, and it's just the input buffer stage I use in all my pedals so you've all heard it already. Same thing as Andy allicio's little buffer box too, really simple one op-amp stage. Cool to see it again!

What is the benefit of running such a buffer in your pedal chain?

I imagine it would be a way to retain your signal strength in a large chain, but probably less colorful than a boss style buffer

Buffers are used to return your signal to low impedance, thus increasing clarity and the upper frequencies. If you have 30 feet of cheap cable and a bunch of true-bypass pedals, your signal can turn dull and thin. A buffer restores what the cables and pedals take away. Some people say that the input and output buffers of a pedal when its engaged are more natural than other forms of buffers, though I don't know how true that is. I'm just repeating what others have said.

Yep, you guys got it right, buffers are all about preventing the loading of your pickups and then delivering that signal onwards. Only the simplest fuzz pedals don't have buffers inside them, nearly every other circuit will require a buffer here and there to make sure everything works together nicely. I do the same buffer into and out of every one of my pedals, I consider it an important detail.

This chap got the Orca buffer first, then ordered the Orca-berator a little later, back in 2008.
