I fucking hate my p bass. My hands are not cooperating with the 34 inch scale. I'm a wimp.

What are some cool, relatively cheap short scale bass options out there.

Squier Mustang/second hand fender mustangs? Epi EB0. I'm not really sure if these are that good and I'm probably missing loads, I'm pretty interested in this myself tbh so it'd be good if someone else knew more.

Been eyeing the jag basses for a bit, but I wasn't sure about the quality...the price certainly is right!

I'll back the Squier VM Mustang all day.

I own the full scale VM Jag (the PJ one), and the quality is totally legit. Honestly, I A/B'd it against a few MIM fenders and it played and sounded better than all of them. It's a steal at the price they go for. I'd bet the short scale one is just as sweet.

I'd check out Rondo Music, too. They usually get in some cool short scales.

the sg bass isn't terribly expensive. i've played in bands with eb-o basses and i liked their fat sound.

My wife has a Squier VM Jaguar Short Scale, and a MIM Fender P Bass Jr. We paid about the same for both, actually. The P Jr is a nicer instrument, but the Jaguar is definitely worth the money. It is a solid instrument at a ridiculous price.

The biggest drawbacks are the tuners (sloppy), the nut (soft gray plastic), and the weight (over 9lbs). The P pickup is nice, the J is not so nice. The electronics aren't very good (I upgraded them), and the knobs are the cheapest I have seen.

The neck is really nice. It is very slim at the nut, like a Jazz bass, and so it is easy to play for someone with small hands. You probably want to change the strings right away. After trying several light short scale sets, I realized that it makes no sense to use light strings on a short scale instrument. They don't have enough tension, and sound floppy. I went with D'Addario XL160S .050-.070-.085-.105. The tension is still lower than my Jazz bass, and they sound great.

I dig the Squier mikey way signature Mustang.

Yeah that thing looks awesome. No idea who Mikey Way is but he has cool taste in basses I guess.
