Anyone use the Big John Lil' John Boost?

I'm looking for a boost with a small footprint. I'm also looking for one with some gain on tap. I originally had a Phat Phuk B and sold it. Yeah, I know it's perfect, but I need something smaller. Lately, the Big John Lil' John and the Xotic EP boosts have been calling my name. I've also been toying with the idea of getting a Mooer Pure or Flex Boost for dirt cheap.

I play through an SVT-VR so my tone is extremely clean. I want a boost that'll give me a bit of tube grit when only using that pedal. Then, when I use my fuzz pedals, I need that extra oomph to really fatten/tighten up the low end and give it extra drive.

Someone told me the Xotic EP Booster has a perfect amount of gain, but I've never seen a video for bass. The Big John Boost has two or three bass videos on YouTube, but I haven't come across anyone who has used one. So now I ask you, my ILF bretheren, if any of you have used one!

Just get another Phat Phuk B.

How much smaller can a pedal get?

Yeah, it's not tiny, but it's what you really want.

(Or go over to the Shark Tank and get Henretta to custom build you something. Can't get much smaller than his builds.)

Well, if you compare the PPB to any Mooer pedal, I'd say pedals can get pretty small.

With the new board I hope to build soon, I might need another pedal on top of the boost. I'll be working with a certain size board, so "size matters".

I know, I'm just giving you shit.

Seriously though, those Henretta pedals are tiny (2" x 2"). If you're concerned with space (and it seems you are), look at his stuff.

Yeah? Well come say it to my face.

The PPB really is a great pedal, but GAS takes over. I sold it to some guy who said it hasn't shown up. Hopefully it comes back to me in the mail.

2"x2" you say? Well, shit. That's sweet. I'll check him out.

I have one of these, somewhere. It's small enough if you're not careful you might misplace it when you take it off your board.

It's a good little booster. My only complaint is that it adds some low end as it boosts. Not alot, but you will notice a bit. I still like it, but I use it for guitar and, if anything, I would prefer a little extra treble with my boost. If you want it for bass, then you might actually like this. Anyway, I quite like it, it's only off the board lately cause I've been switching stuff around alot and it's just 1 less pedal to hook up for now. It works really well for boosting other fuzzes and whatnot, doesn't colour your tone much, but, like I said it will give you a bit more low end.

The dirt is quite nice. I wouldn't really say it adds "tube like" grit, but at low levels it sounds very natural, and if you crank it, it gets to be a little fuzzy, but leaves your tone fairly in tact.

And it's really small obivously. I don't have the exact dimensions, but its somewhere in the 1.5"x2.25" range.

When I stop going crazy on pedals and actually figure out a decent board layout I will no doubt put it back in the chain.

Of course, I could always just keep my Rat Tail and use that as a "boost". This has been my dilemma for a few weeks now.

Thanks for the plug, Chankgeez.

Yes, my Pinkman Dirty Boost may fit the bill.

No problem, kevinhifi, you're welcome. One of these days, I'll be picking a pedal or two from you. :snax:

I have one coming back from a customer who is having me custom build the Pinkman circuit into a regular sized (1590B) enclosure with knobs. This pedal he is returning is in perfect condition, and you can have it for $100 including shipping to Nova Scotia via First Class Mail (add $16 if you want it sent USPS Priority Mail).
