I've heard the Japanese ones are great, but I'm more interested in their cheap ones. This is the bass I'm looking at:

Reason I want to get it is it's dang near impossible to find a sub-$500 single pickup passive lefty bass. Anyways, :idk: .

I've played a few, some good some meh I remember most of their bass pickups in the 90's being low output :idk: but ok built. They are the same company as Burny and I have a bass and a guitar by them [MIJ] which I love, also which might interest you a little I have a Vertigo X coming which is a cheap model [they sold for like 300 or something new] so I'll give you a opinion of the quality when I get it.

Cool!

Yeah, I went ahead and bought it anyways. It's discontinued, and because of what I said about lefties, I figured I'd jump on it. Worst case scenario I'll send it back. I will post back with my thoughts as well.

Their non Japanese models tend to be built well and well designed, but they usually cheap out on components. I've got an LE-X Strat clone that I picked up cheap used that has issues including crap wiring and pickups and a junk trem. Still sounds pretty good and plays nicely after very little effort on my part. (I'd have moved on upgrades but for too damned many choices of what to do with it.)

I really regret not buying one of the teles or strats back in the late 80's and early 90's. Sounded and played so amazing and were inexpensive. Haven't tried any of the newer models, like the ones pictured above, They are frequently popping up on Craigs List around Boston. Not sure if that indicates a lack of quality or if people just need some quick cash.

I played one strat with the copy headstock in a shop years ago after I had bought a much more expensive strat and I felt like an idiot. Even the Gumby/Dali headstock era ones tend to be as good as a lot of Fenders, especially when they were still Japanese production.

Some folks are trying to push them towards Tokai and early Squier pricing, but that kind of pricing is pretty silly. They're just guitars, not fairy dust. Given all the good cheap guitars out there, a sense of proportion is important.
