Anyone ever think about starting over?

My pedal collection has grown quite large but this nagging feeling has me wanting to just sell it all and only keep what I absolutely need. Has anyone else here gone through this? Was it worth it? Basically either talk me one way or the other. I've read about people purging all their pedals to go back to basics with a nice amp and guitar but I'm totally happy with my tele and pignose bass amp. It just feels overwhelming sometimes.

Sorry for the bitchin...ignore if I'm being to much of a bitch.

Nope.

I've sold a few things, not many, and I generally regret it at some stage. So I've given up on selling things and instead stockpile stuff. Out of sight, out of mind. Then when I feel like changing things up it's like I've got a whole bunch of "new" pedals.

Obviously I think it depends on the person/situation. If you need the money then of course sell some stuff you don't use often. I like to have a lot to choose from as what I use is in constant flux. If I sold most of my stuff outside of the absolute essentials I have a feeling that over time I would slowly buy it all back.

I've done it quite a few times. Sometimes rewarding, sometimes not

Its kinda scary how much money I would have if I purged all my pedals, amp, and guitars I dont need. I don't even know what I would do with it.

You could put some in savings and then buy something awesome with the rest! Like an EGC.......

I guess it wouldn't hurt to just put a mega purge thread up and just put all the money away as savings as it comes.

Personally, nope, though I totally understand people who do.

For me, pedals are often the starting points for songs - either because they'll generate some kind of evocative noise/drone, or their sound will just trigger an idea. I've had that happen with different instruments too, but for the most part my pedals are all cheaper than new instruments. Plus I enjoy the actual physicality of the pedals. Sometimes I'll just take 'em down off the shelf to look at 'em.

Purge. I'm a big proponent of just keeping what you use, plus a couple pieces of backup equipment. Guitar-wise, I recently got rid of all my guitars except for my P90 Guild, including the American Tele I bought new in the early 90's (that was the really hard one). I bought a good amp and kept a 5 watter for practice. I got rid of most of the pedals that aren't on my board and will get rid of a few more in the near future. If you aren't using it, most likely, you aren't going to use it, let it go.

i think if you're in the position to hold onto your gear for the sake of ...collecting? i would do it
but if you feel like shit is weighing you down then i say purge a bit.

if it becomes anything else but fun for me than i don't want anything to do with it.

That's the problem money isn't a issue for me but it still just seems like its too much at times.

then i think you have your answer
especially if you're in that position i'd say really think about something you've always wanted to do
and collect the dough

I kinda wish I hadn't gotten so many guitars. Now they're either not worth the hassle of selling/shipping or too modified to make any real profit off of. I'd be happy with three but there are eight hanging around...
I've thought about selling off my pedalboard and restarting a few times, but the ones on there right now are my most treasured, it's too hard
