GAIN - High - Med - Low - What Are You???

Gain; so what's the Big Deal??? :idk:

I have a mix of High - Medium and Low Gain type pedals (like most of us here) and find that 90% of the time I'm playing the Low Gain pedals the most... If I want some more action I just stack 2 or 3 Low Gains and mess with order for texture... I'm talking mostly about my Algals, Fingerprint, Frazz on Low Gain, Fuuuck, Elements, Pharoah, TAFM with Clean way up and Fuzz down etc... I was playing that Truck Loud I got and keep noticing that the OD/Gain kinda sits on top of the Clean original signal and just mixes with it like the Frazz does and that's a Sound I Really Love... I've been playing all kinds of styles and can get anything from Doom to Gaze to Rawk to Space Country just by using a few Low Gains...

What are your favorites and why??? Who uses more High Gain, who plays mostly clean and can GTFO??? Is Fuzz Really The Greatest Thing On Earth??? :animal:

What about those of us currently utilizing a negative gain structure?

Low gain seems to retain a lot more character of the guitar/amp and is more friendly to other pedals stacked with it. It feels like the more gain a pedal has, the more it sort of takes over the sound of everything, which isn't a bad thing by any means, but it's kind of more... fatiguing? I just get tired of it faster. I use high gain stuff in short bursts and keep my low gain stuff on 90% of the time. I feel like this post sounds very TGP. ew.

I use what I consider to be a pretty high gain Big Muff, and then boost it with the lower gain Rangemaster. I can't really think of a better combo for my situation.

Low-to-medium gain overdrive and medium gain fuzzes. Stack to get the chaos, or use my Kill Kill Filter.
Two ss/bs mini's stack on low-medium gain gets some of the more gorgeous guitar textures I've ever heard, especially when playing lightly.

i do wish i knew technically
what the difference was
so i could be part of this conversation
i do play through the low gain jack on my amp
i assumed the amp itself would be cleaner
and have more headroom
i made that up though
it most likely is bullshit
and i also assume tha badascan is high gain
cause it so frikkin badass
but i could be wrong about that too
i will be taught in this thread, huzzah

i usually find myself dialing back the gain on all my dirt pedals.
think they stack better with everything else on my board
it's like making the perfect peanut butter and jelly sandwhich
or something.

High gain the way.
If it's overdrive, it's high gain overdrive.
Same goes for fuzz.
I have a rather caveman/barbarian approach to dirt.

The more primitive and distorted the better, I agree

Although textures of low gains is cool too. I just like the idea of mangling the original signal greatly to produce a wall of fuzz.

High gain in the beginning, medium in the middle, low at the end. Stack dat shit anyway you want.

Mmmmmmostly medium I guess, I like to stack and blend not-insanely-gainy fuzzes together more than I like using any individual one.
If I want really high gain I just use the Blowing Up, turns any other pedal into a joke.

I said all. I love gain. For my current band, I'd say it's medium.

For a while, my clean tone was just my Phat Phuk B with the internal diode set fairly high. I only use a clean tone at home at present.

They get negative votes... :idk:

What are some favorite High or Low Gain 2 Pedal Combos???

I like the Algal > Fuuuck or Fuuuck > Frazz or FIngerprint > Fuuuck (FingerFuck) or Algal > Elements...
