I was wondering if there was a site that told you what artist are using what on there guitar, pedals, amps.
PS: Does a gain booster work on solid state?

Yes, assuming it already has distortion to it. If it's totally clean, it'll just be a volume boost (I assume you're just talking about a boost pedal).

http://www.uberproaudio.com/ Is pretty handy
Need some more details...What artist are you trying to get the sound of? What do you mean by gain booster? Any particular boost product you are lookig at? This could be any number of things.
What kind of amp are we talking? Marshall MG combo type SS? Or a line 6 spider modeling amp...there are diffrences. Anywho having a solid state amp may not help you achieve the tone you are looking for, though a boost will do what it says regardless of your amp...boost your signal (though some might say boosting a modeled signal is useess). An overdrive might help you out more if you are looking to fatten/thicken up a SS amp...some even come with a boost side as well if you need.
Don't mean to sound too snobby, just trying to help you get the sound you are looking for without spending loads of cash

I love my BBE Boosta Grande! One knob that says gain. It works very well before an amp at the end of your fx chain. It also works for driving an overdrive or distortion pedal harder. I play into a solid state keyboard amp and it works great. Lots of reviews here.
http://reviews.harmony-central.com/revi ... rande/10/1 I find it very tranparent with only a lttle added warmth perhaps. Rock on!

Its the nitropedal, and the funny thing is I have a line 6 spider 3 thinking about going to marshall mg, but what would it do with those 2 amps?

Nitro boost on sale for $30.00 guess you can't go wrong at that price...can't hurt to try it out. HC reviews seem positive.
