Recommend a fuzz/distortion box

First of all, hi everyone, first post here :)

I need an advice. I'm re-arranging my board once again, and I need a new fuzz/distortion box.

I play in an alt.rock band in the vein of QOTSA and NIN. I'd like a mixture between vintage and modern, something with good clarity and fast pick attack. I play chords and lead lines as well. Currently I'm using an old large box Soulbender.
I'm considering:

Musket (and Big Muff in general)
Skreddy Cognitive Dissonance
HBE Ufo Fuzz

Any advice???
Thanxs a lot :thumb:

Well, I'd say either a Fuzzhugger Algal Bloom or an Arc Flash. Welcome to ILF :hello: Check out some demos of either of those pedals. Both very versatile and awesome-sounding :thumb:

I would look at trying a latest revision of the dr scientist frazz dazzler...It can do a really great gated fuzz while being able to do low gain stuff as well.

Dr. Scientist Elements can get you there for sure.

For NIN-esque tones you basically just want something really compressed and over the top. For QOTSA you want something more vintage appropriate.

Take a look at the Dwarfcraft Eau Claire Thunder or the more compact Baby Thundaa, either one should get you where you want to go. Plus they stack well with other fuzz.

+1 on this. Can't go wrong with the Dwarfcraft.

Thank you guys, numerous great suggestions! :thumb:

I'm considering to keep two fuzzes on my board. Soulbender for vintage-oriented type of things, and a different beast for modern stuff.
I'm listening to a lot of demo video on YT!! What about the Hoof by EQD? I know Robert Finck of NIN uses a Green Russian Muff.

Syle Umiom worth a look.

Discontinued but I have bought one of these refurbished from etsy. Seems like a pretty good meaty, allrounder.
Cheap at this price too.

Recommend a fuzz? That's kind of a big question...

Image

For muff sounds: Hoof, Musket, or Blunderbuss
For vintage sounds to crazy sounds (sounds like you already had this covered): Algal Bloom
For more over-the-top vintage sounds and oscillation: Ab-Synth

Having both types of fuzz and dialing them in Should get you both sounds you're after.

My guitar player just got one of the old big box Soul Benders. It sounds great and he's very happy with it.

Doesn't NIN use a Devi BIT live?

I can definitely recommend the Musket, it's versatile and sounds great, I think it's a good complement to a tone bender style 'vintage' fuzz. Fuzzhugger (Algal Bloom has great clarity and sounds nice low-high gain) make some cool pedals too!

At some point in time they were using a Soda Meiser.
