i just bought a Malekko 616 of craigslist earlier today. i just got home and it's dead! i hooked it up to a one spot and the light just blinked and there was a slight ticking from the power supply. unplugged the external power supply and put in a nine volt. it started smoking! did i goof and miss something big? it's supposed to run off tip - 200 mA, yeah? am i sunk?

That's weird, I ran mine off a onespot and it worked perfectly

dude told me it worked fine, was selling a bunch of other stuff and didn't seem like he was trying to pull something. can anyone confirm that this does indeed void the warranty? what i can't understand is why it would have smoked with the 9 volt installed. this blows

id Email the company and ask em. you should always try stuff out if you can. there are pretty awful people on craigslist sometimes.

Onespots voiding the warranty doesn't seem to make a lot of sense. I'm pretty sure that a number of ILF builders specifically recommend them on their websites, actually. I'd be interested in hearing Malekko's response in that regard.

I am pretty sure I almost bought the exact same malekko 616 that you are speaking of from phillys craiglist.

I just had to send my one spot back to visual sound and although my problem was not covered under the warranty they sent me a replacement and I am grateful for it. Maybe try contacting malekko and sending the pedal back to see what went wrong?

The 616 isn't like a fuzz that only needs like 20ma. the 616 needs at least 250ma of current. that's why a loaded down onespot can sometimes starve it out. if you had other current hogs on the board you may have starved it. though I'm not sure how sensative the BBD chips in that pedal are to browning out. I imagine malekko had a good reason for the rule though. :( sorry duder.

Sooo... there warranty doesn't cover poor design?

I don't understand why specifically one of the best designed power supplies there is could possibly void the warranty or cause any harm, looking at the online manual I see no mention of not using it.

The Godlyke is the same shape sure but has WAY more current on tap than a one spot does.

I don't think it needs that much current:

I didn't dig too far, so that's probably the spec for MKII. But if you've got the green board version, I can't see it being too different. I've been running mine off of 100mA (PP2+) for a month now with no issues. The 1Spot warranty void thing confuses me too, but I've never run mine with daisy chained power to find out why.

edit: I dug deeper, and the manual definitely says to use 200mA. I guess I'd believe the manual over the website, but that's a big difference between the advertised draw and the suggested power supply.

it's a mk 1. something for sure burned up. i just cannot understand why that would happen with the battery.
