Korean Made Epi Les Pauls from the 80's and 90's?

This guitar has me super intrigued.

http://spokane.craigslist.org/msg/3388206097.html

It's been on CL for a few months. But he has had it at that price for a while. I think he originally listed it for well over and got called out; not bad enough to scare me off.

Doing a little bit of fact finding; $500 is a bit steep seeming; maybe if it's mint? Is there some collectability I'm overlooking? Does $350 seem more reasonable? At $5 bills I'd just save another $200 and look for a Gibson LP Studio and plan on making some upgrades.

What do the fine folks of ILF say? Anyone have any experience or info on these?

i don't know about the epiphones, but if you're even considering a lp studio, i can recommend one of the tributes. they are a lot of guitar for the money and they play and sound great (i have a couple of 50s tributes with p90s). wildwood has several on sale:

I'd get that before getting a new gibson studio.

Chances are it is a full on solid mahogany body which the new gibson studios are not, they are chambered.
I own two korean epis and they are pretty cool instruments.

That I am not sure on... If it was a MIJ one [they have the same head shape] then that would be a steal... but if it is a 90... I'd most likely try for lower... or keep looking... inless you have played it and LOVE it..

Thread title sounds like a Jeopardy! category.

"I'll take 'Korean Made Epi Les Pauls from the 80's and 90's?' for $800, Alex."

one of the nicest guitars ive ever played
and she got it for $250
its darkdark brown with a reddishbrown burst
5 hundo does seem steep

Yeah I got a LP goth from the last end of that period, it is a cool guitar, not the same as a older "real" LP but still cool and yeah I got it for $250

I can't speak to the Epi (though it does look nice), but for $500 you can probably start peepin' around for older MIJ lawsuit LP's too. Greco's, Burny's, Tokai's, etc. too. Bird-In-Hand factor has a lot going for it though. Maybe go play it, and if it's awesome offer the guy $400?

i wouldn't say $500 is excessive if it's in good condition...the quality is far higher than the less expensive upper-level Chinese/Indonesian Epi Les Pauls that are selling for $350-500 nowadays.

Yeah,...this is turning into one of those situations where it's nice to fantasize but probably a bad reality.

I love a good deal but I've got more pressing things to get taken care of beyond spending cash on another guitar.

So I just took my MIM Tele Deluxe RI in for some repair and setup work and to get a set of Tone Pro Kluson tuning keys put on it.

been thinkin about this
if i really loved the guitar
like id never get over
that i let it get away
and the seller wouldnt budge
id probly give him the five beans
i wouldnt say it was a good deal
it would be a
"you dont wanna know how much i paid"sitch
but the epi i was talkin about
i try and coax her into sellin it to me
whenever im at their house
if she popped out with $500 from thin air
id probably give it to her
she is a friend though
wouldnt mindthem havin the extra loot
and the LP is sometin special
