Tablets, Soft Synths, and Midi

Hey dudes, looking for some info on soft synths, tablets, midi, etc. I'm getting an Akai MPK25 for Christmas and my Mom won a big fat gift card and wants to by us both tablets with it. SO I'M WONDERING...

What tablets are great for music production, have great soft synth and recording apps, etc?

I notice not many if any at all have midi input, I take it a midi to usb would work alright?

I basically want to have a small, simple recording/composing set up that is separate from my current laptop. Are there plenty of options to record and compose on a tablet? Or should I just get a second laptop optimized for recording?

I eventuallywant to get into realms of Controllerism, but I figure having a compact device with mpc pads and keyboard would be a good way to begin understanding midi and digital music composition/performance. And a tablet format would be ideal for portability and less hassle in setting up.

SHOW ME THE PATHS I HAVE TO CHOOSE FROM ILF TECH GURUS.

I've no personal experience, but Philip uses an iPad w/ Garageband and he always sounds great:

As far as tablets, for music production, it has to be an iPad

From what I understand Android Doesn't fully support Core Audio so the latency in audio apps is unacceptable. hence why All the app makers stick with iOS devices like iPads and such.

I'd say pick up a mini and run from there.

I CAN'T BE THE ONLY ONE WHO WANTS TO SIT AROUND AND MAKE BEATS ALL DAY.

Thanks for the input, that really makes me lean towards an iPad. I've been browsing that thread which caused me to make this thread, definitely some solid looking apps to play with, and if there is a way to record onto garage band using those apps, that'd be rad. Only thing that keeps me hesitant about Apple is their repair costs, and their stores creep me the hell out.

well you could order it or go to best buy. As far as repair costs, dont break it.
for recording synths on your ipad you could check out audiobus

not a LOT of supported apps but it was just released and they mention animoog will be on this list and there is like 700 interested parties so I think that list will grow pretty fast over the next year.

Honestly for beat making and soft synths I prefer just using my laptop, Maschine software comes with Massive now so I'm pretty set on soft synths. Still want to run Animoog into my mixer and throw that on there as well.
