Thinking about selling my Rainbow Machine

I'm finding my Rainbow Machine to not be musical enough for my tastes. I like the sound it makes, just the notes it shifts to are very whole toney and samey to me. I like the quality of the sound, I just don't really have a use for it. Anyone else had this experience? anyone had the opposite experience? have anything that can make me change my mind? thanks

Dump it. I mean, how many times can you play the middle section of "Get Down, Make Love"?

I will say this
I owned one awhile ago... Maybe 6 months?
I returned it to Prymaxe because I didn't know what to do with it
And now I just bought it again in b/s/t.
I miss it and I'm not entirely sure why
Maybe I like a challenge. Instead of tweaking a pedal to go nuts I found myself doing the opposite with the rainbow machine.
I'd like to believe its capable of a lot more than what the demos are showing, at least in a band setting.
It's kind of like how with the line 6 dl4, if you screw around with I think the tube echo delay you get almost this overdrive sound

I have to say that I don't really like a challenge. I like to be able to get a lot of sounds easily on pedals, convenience works well with me.

Definitely don't hold on to pedals you don't dig - life's too short, and there are too many cool pedals out there.
That said, I love my Rainbow Machine for the more subtle sounds you can get out of it - there are some great weird chorus-y noises in there, and if you use just the lower voice stuff, or roll back on the magic knob, you can get some cool arhythmic pulses out of it. But it does take a little playing around with to find these other spots. It's not as hard as some pedals, but you should definitely poke around with the knobs, and try it in non-magic mode too. Of course, that's assuming you haven't already - if you've poked around and unlocked those sounds and still don't like it, disregard all of that and go directly to b/s/t.

This. I had a Rainbow machine and I miss it currently. I like the slight pitch descending reverb I could make, or making it into a -4th down pitch shifter and blending in the clean and suboctave 4th and play riffy 70s rock and roll stuff. Just because a lot of demos focus on that "OH HAI LOOK SPACE NOISES" doesn't mean you have to take the pedal to that extreme. But if it is not doing it for you then buy/sell/trade it away. Saying that you like the sound but not the "whole-tone" quality of it means you found a sound that you like, now it should be easier to identify that sound in other pedals and find one more to your liking and faster because of it.

I played mine because of this thread with my loony. I Love The slapback reverbesque detuned Delay atmosphere.

When I had one, I was able to recreate the same sounds as the Rainbow Machine with the Ice setting on the Timeline. Once I figured that out, I got rid of it.
I applaud EQD for making weird stuff, though.

I find it very usable with an expression pedal attached. You can throw in a subtle weirdness in here and there, like a chorus pedal on the brink of exploding into a rainboooow. hence the name i guess.
I wish they'd throw a clean blend knob or an fx loop switch or something on there to totally take out the clean sound though.

Oh yeah Particle! I'm wait listed, can't wait for my number to come up. On one of your demos on the Red Panda site one of the settings nails the Rainbow Machine "magic", then there are the 10 other things the Particle can do.
