Talk me into/out of this Gretsch

I've been looking into buying a new guitar, and have always loved Gretsch, and this showed up in my local shop.

I played it, and it was awesome. So awesome. It needed thicker strings, but other than that almost perfect.
I probably played it for an hour when I went in, and I'm going back again to try it soon.
Might make them an offer since I think it's been there for a while. I want it.

However, I've never had a chance to play a guitar like this at higher volumes, or for extended periods of time.
Is there anything I need to be worried about? Anything weird going on there? Gonna fall apart at gig?
It might seem like a funny question, but I usually do a lot more research on my instruments then I've done for this one, and want to make sure I'm not making a mistake.
I can't seem to find much wrong with this idea yet. Maybe I'm nuts?

dat gretsch...

I'm probably going to make them an offer.
Just wanted to see if anyone had a reason to not like these I couldn't see.

I'm with Chank. If you played it and liked it and have the cash... Looks pretty killer. Does it have a huge wide neck? I like that about some Gretsch's.

Yeah. I just wanted to see if anyone had any problems with one.

It plays pretty wicked to me. The neck isn't huge, but it's more than enough. I like pretty big necks though, so maybe I'm not the best to ask.
Only thing I don't like is the stupid tone selector. The idea is pretty interesting, placement of it is just awful. Maybe it works for others, but I switch pickups a lot, so it doesn't do much for me. It just got in the way.

I'm going into the shop in about half an hour to talk with them.
I'm a bit strapped for cash, but I'm going to see if I can even put a 50% down payment or something. I dunno. They're pretty chill.

That's lame. Sorry to hear that. I hate it when that happens. Definitely a big let down. You'll find something else.

Had that happen to me recently. There is for sure always another one right around the corner though. And always good to have something to hunt for.

the nice thing about the Jet models is that they're heavily chambered--the inside is routed out almost completely except for a center block where the PUs mount--so they have a nice resonance without the feedback susceptibility. Ben Ottewell in Gomez plays a Duo Jet with FilterTrons with fuzz and it KILLS. Scott McCaughey played one with FilterTrons when he was the auxiliary guitarist with R.E.M., and Billy Zoom's sparkle-topped Duo Jet with Dynasonics is so iconic that there's a BZ signature model now. they may be the easiest Gretsches to love, especially if you aren't comfortable with the big-box archtops.

I converted a Pro Jet to Dynasonic PUs, and it's one of my favorite electric guitars.

I'm glad you like them.
Makes me more confident in it.

I'm going to have to wait to get one for another few months though, since some unexpected studio costs came up.
Kind of a good thing I didn't get it. I need every cent now.
