Using Bass Amps for Guitar

I know it can be done, but I was curious what your guys' experiences are doing so. It's impossible finding a SS guitar combo that is simple, has clean headroom, and not complete garbage. There's a lot more options in bass amplification, though. 100 watt combos are pretty cheap, too, and I'd imagine would be plenty loud enough for guitar.

WHAT SAY YOU?

Convenience over tone.

Really enjoyed playing through a single fifteen/bass amp and a twin reverb at the same time. For the moment though, I'm going down to my GK solid state and an 8x10 for guitar and bass. Its great for bass, of course. Guitar gets a little... solid statey, for lack of a better term. Kind of clangy...

I have a Peavey TKO 65 that I use for guitar and it sounds awesome and is loud as hell (for being a 65 watt SS amp) and was pretty cheap.

I split my signal to a behringer head with ultra bass on coming out of an 18". Sounds good but distortion doesn't rip due to the 18" I think.

You run the second voice with octave down in front of it? How is it?

bass amps for guitars rule
and I have no issues with solid state

I used to run a univox bass head and 2x12 bass cab as half of my live setup
I upgraded to a kustom PA head eventually either way it is huge

some of it depends on how you tune and what you play but you get a type of immediacy and heaviness playing on bass amps

Don't let the tube elitists fool you, you can find some monster tones running guitars with a bass amp

Lots of bass amps sound great on guitar, the cabs are a different story. Generally closed back, ported cabs sound great for bass but not so great on guitar. Piezo tweeters generally sound horrible to me and are included on many bass cabs also.

It seems like all the music I'm playing these days involves turning the tweeter off. I always joke about cutting it out with a knife.

Basically, get something old if its got to be solid starte, and then buy a fridge.

You just have to set the amp to sound rightwith whatever instrument you're playing, and agreed on the 'guitar cab' or no tweeter bass one.

I don't like 18" speakers personally, I'm ok with bright (read JBL or clones) 15".

SS you won't sacrifice 'tone' sa long as you're not looking for tube-type breakup, which frankly, not everyone on earth wants.

Cannot take away the breakup that occurs when you don't want it to.
