Talk me out of getting a Pitchfactor.
I've started a new job and feel like giving the board a bit of an overhaul.
I've been looking at getting a Pitchfactor for some time now to replace my Whammy (WH4). Clearly it's going to do harmonies better, but I was wondering if you could chuck an expression pedal in there and control pitch-bending in the same way. Also, since you guys are the only ones who I think are likely to know the answer here, how does the Pitchfactor sound in a feedback loop? My Whammy can get all kinds of ramp-y, oscillate-y, glitchy goodness which I use for a couple of songs and I don't really want to loose that.
I've also got a Timeline and I was wondering how much overlap between that and the Pitchfactor is, I don't really want pedals doing the same thing, but if there's enough crazy difference, I might just go for it.
That and the Harpeggiator mode makes me happy.
And the bloke from Adebisi Shank uses one now, and he makes good things happen.
Do I REALLY need to spend £250?
Probably.
Help!

You do realize that this is TOTALLY the wrong place to look to for help talking you out of getting new gear, right?
Not gonna do it.
PULL THE TRIGGER!!!!!!!
*note - I don't even know if the Pitchfactor will do what you're asking. But get it anyways. It will do something cool, for sure.

I'm more like a mids-ist than a bassist.

i see no reason why you dont deserve to treat yourself
youre a good man
youve been through a lot
it is expensive though, but your gonna spend the loot on
two other pedals, so fuck it
go for it
ive been eyeing this thing for a bit
and one of the sounds ive come up with using three other pedals
im sure this thing can do, ez pz

Re: Talk me out of getting a Pitchfactor.
WH-5 has a polyphonic mode which tracks chords insanely well! You still have access to the classic mode, though, so if you need that My Iron Lung sound you can still cop it.
From what I understand the Pitchfactor is essentially monophonic shifting with clarity... throw any more at it and it sounds messy.

But... but... but this!
I'm kinda thinking I wouldn't want to replace my Whammy with another Whammy. I like the idea of having new sounds to play with, but it's just the cost that's putting me off.

Re: Talk me out of getting a Pitchfactor.
You can emulate a true-r arpeggiator with a Midi Mouse/Molten Midi 2/something that sends MIDI signals to your Whammy and with something like the Molten Midi 2 you can create and store presets on the pedal-sized device itself so you can make all the arpeggiations you want in the tempo you want on the fly. Still probably cheaper.

Why wouldnt you just use a synth? That doesnt even sound remotely like a guitar.

But the PitchFactor has 9 other modes besides Harpegiator.

Since when has making your guitar not sound like a guitar been a bad thing?
