I'm almost done with my first full listen now, and am loving it. This one's grabbing me like none have since the first. I mean, I've dug 'em plenty, but this one feels more varied and interesting, texturally and song-wise. Maybe I'm just in a more receptive mood, but it does feel like they've played with the formula more successfully than in the past few albums while retaining their core thing. I've heard that they went through a lot personally while writing the album, and supposedly that impacted the music. I'd buy that explanation.

Anyhow, that's my semi-coherent analysis. I'm sure someone capable of stringing words together with a semblance of clarity will explain things better.

After seeing them it kinda ruined it for me...the guitarist/bassist dude is different...and put me off kinda, but not a bad person...just put me off. Something about projecting your pedalboard and making sure everyone heard you say that you did everything live is a bit ridiculous to me, but he does do cool things. I'll definitely listen, but the first EP was my favorite thus far.

I dunno. Nerds like us know how he's doing what he's doing, but most of the rest of the audience doesn't. I think that they have every right to be proud of, and to proclaim, the fact that they're doing it all live.

That said, as much as I like them, I can only listen for so long without it all sounding the same. They do what they do so well that there's not really anywhere for themselves to go...

Yeah, I hear ya on that for sure. That's why I'm diggin' this new one - it feels much more varied than the last few. That said, it's perhaps a more limited variance than with other bands... but it's nice to hear them reaching out into textures and feels than they have before.

they're definitely breaking a lot of sonic ground on this one. and downloadable from soundcloud?! fuckin BADASS. i hear a lot of pop influences into their driving indie signature sound. making NEW sounds. so fancy. and i guess they've been through a LOT lately so this is like, way cool of them
