Cheap recording set up

Hey guys, I've been making electronic music (or trying to) for a while now, and I have a talkbox at the house I'd really like to start using. But I really want to use the VST synths on my PC to use it.

I was thinking about getting a Shure SM57 and possibly a communication/2-way radio style mic for some versatility. Also wanted to use a USB tube Mic pre-amp, like from ART. I guess one thing I can't quite decide though is how to record and use an input simultaneously to record. Would I need a second soundcard, and use one as an input, one as an output?

If you are using a DAW just arm a track and record... You should be able to set up different inputs for each channel i.e. 1-8 = VST's and 9-10 are stereo inputs from the external source...

Your wording is a little confuse so elaborate...

Get a pre with USB and it wont be a problem...

I use FL Studio 9 for my DAW, and one thing I've noticed when doing it through one soundcard is that it plays the input audio through the output, so when the output from the VST synth goes to the talkbox....it just causes problems.

You have to mute the output or route them elsewhere... It doesn't always have to be going in and out, you are creating a Feedback Loop...

That's what I thought, but I still have yet to figure out how to mute the output in Fl Studio. I'll look at it some more.

The tiny green dot below the pan is the mute for each track... I use hardware so I'm just going off the FL manual... I'm sure someone here actually uses FL and could probably clear this up...

It's not really that that's the problem, it's that when you arm FL Studio for recording, it previews the audio through the output. It might be a smarter strategy to record the melody/part dry, then put it in Adobe Audition, record over it, then bring it back in...I'll figure something out
