EQD Talons vs. Dr. Scientist Elements

Post by madmax1012 »

Both are probably an amazing option, and they both seem like do it all dirt boxes. I'd like to end up with one of them at some point...Suggestions?

I have The Elements... it's awesome and very versatile.
The Talons demo from EQD did not impressed me much... but I never tried it. :idk:

I think they said Sept 28th is the street date.

Talons looks like a very versatile OD, and I am a huge fan of all things EQD. Seriously. I don't own 9 pedals from any other mfr. ...
BUT The Elements is scary fucking amazing. So infinitely tweakable, from low gain to high gain and sounds good at all points in-between, and with all the tone-shaping options available--it seems like it truly can do it all AND do it well.
Special low-frequency version.

It would probably be hard to compare the two because no one has the talons yet and you can't completely trust a YouTube video.

Also, to be fair, they're really not the same thing. The Elements was Ryan's take on a super high-gain 'stortion that he could use to chug along to Slayer with, and he happened to put in a low-gain mod that is also a total monster. The Talons was Jamie's take on OD, pure and simple. There may be crossover, but still, the Talons should be evaluated on its own merits as well as in comparison to other pedals. Plus it seems a shame to write a pedal off before it's even been released, on the strengths or weaknesses of one YouTube vid (maybe two, TOPS).

This. Totally.

I would have liked to see the Talons with quite a bit more gain on tap, but I'll take it at face value for what it is.

It seems pretty versatile for what it's designed to do, and top-mounted jacks will always win me over with small footprint boxes.

The hype for the elements is all true! You can really dial in just about any dirty sound minus intense walls of fuzz. It is my go to distortion when I don't want to get fuzzed out. I got all my friends hooked on the elements, too. Tweaking that little box is so much fun. I can't speak for the talon but all my experience with EQD has been nothing less than superb.
Fuzz, reverb, delay.
