so im thinkin we've had enough threads about effects on their own, and we're all well versed enough to probably know what we like when combining effects. so lets talk about one of my favorites; chorus and distortion.

before, or after, chorus always adds a piercing high end that i just love. especially with really really bad distortion pedals. i'm lovin the sea machine set kinda triangle-y with some dimension to it, and my shitty solid state amp distortion set to full blast. it sounds like an old organ straight from hell, and i love it.

first got turned on to this kinda sound with Husker Du, and Bob Mould's combo use of it on Zen Arcade.

so whats all y'alls favorite chorus/distortion combo toanz?

I don't have a chorus pedal but I like to set an overdrive so with soft playing, it sounds kinda like a microphone clipping out every now and then. And then I put my vibrato before it and get old lofi tones that I love.

I like the Sea Machine before and after fuzz too, it always adds loads of high end for piercing toanz.

static fuzz like the Unpleasant Surprise or the demo tape fuzz on low gain into a Cosmichorus is like a vintage lo-fi vibrato sound... so sexy.

A few years ago I combined the worst of both worlds, Boss CE-5 with a Bass Big Muff.
Good for those Type O Negative basstoans.

I really like light chorus plus massive bass distortion a la DFA 1979.

For pure, ugly, unadulterated mean, Fender Blender or Ampeg Scrambler into a Jazz Chorus. Hello, octave screaming fucking hell. I'm simple there.

Fuzz + a frozen or very slow chorus is my go-to combo for crazy uber-synthy thick stacked lead tones. I f'ing love it.
