This just posted on the Gibson FB page:

So, big hush-hush meeting regarding MAJOR changes from Gibson in 2013! (Among the rumors: Paying tribute to '50s-era SGs by adding robot tuners. Thoughts?

About damn time, IMO. I use to be a Gibson fan boy, literally all I touched. However they have been SOOOOOO boring, same can go for Fender too tbh, but atleast Fender did the Pawn Shop series, I wasn't a fan but at least it was "NEW"

IMO both Gibson and Fender are competing with Squire now haha

I'm super hyped for the RD Standard Bass MKII; I hear it's gonna have correct pole spacing.

I'm willing to bet they'll release something, stupid, ugly, and with built in wifi.

That's a given. I hope there's some cool stuff alongside it.

That's actually so tacky, I would consider using it.

You're paying for the innovation.

That might spark my interest. Right now I still either want a custom First Act Delgada, or a EGC RD, but if Gibson can get it right it may be a little easier to acquire.

I would definitely be interested in the RD bass if it wasn't overpriced. But it will be... :grumpy:

Yeah, and honestly if I'm paying those kind of prices, I'd rather spend it on an EGC or something like that.

I think Gibson have been doing some good things in recent years. I have a couple of 50s tribute les paul studios that are an incredible value. I don't like some of the new features, such as robotic tuners, but Gibson have provided a range of choices. and people will snap up the zoot suit firebirds just as they did the sg's. I'm not going to belittle Gibson just because they put out a few guitars that are not my cup of tea.

This peaks my interest, all though knowing their pricing structure i'd hold out for the epi version.....
