Kevin Shields - City Girl

I really like the fuzzy overdriven guitar sound on City Girl and I believe it was achieved using the overdrive from an amp. Would I be able to replicate that sort of sound using a pedal? If so, what would you recommend? I'm using a VHT Special 6 at the moment.

No need for anything after and including the "&" when posting YouTubes.

It was an overdriven AC30. End of thread.

amp overdrive is so hard to emulate. that new catalin bread galileo pedal seems to bring the ac30 jangle though.

Driving Notion will. No AC30 (/thread) required. I'd imagine the demo tape fuzz may as well. Also, the Fingerprint can kinda get you there.

Or just get a CB30?

I've never used an AC30, does City Girl demonstrate how it sounds at full tilt?

This Driving Notion thing seems cool, I'll have to investigate it further. Is it worth having the extra two controls?

Absolutely. The mix knob allows Sooooo many sounds. If it gets harsh crank it a bit to the right and it will tame it. Or take the treble back all together. It's such a cool pedal. The only reason I have it listed is because I want something heavy.

Shields has stated a few times that his favorite recording amps are AC30s, particularly because they reproduce the open and alternate chord voicings he plays the clearest. Also, I have read that the tunes he did for Lost In Translation were consciously guitar into amp, as to boil his writing/music down to it's basic elements without the influence of effects.
