What would happen if Vampire Weekend were hipster hippies instead of preppies, were less poppy and didn't come across as being pretentious?

I'm really digging this! The guys rig is similar to my dream rig. I can't make out most of the pedals, but the tone I can tell is pretty close. And he's playing a Teisco, though I'm not sure of the model (might be a kawaii, or other psuedonym build, but I'm about 90% certain that's the Teisco crown logo above the steel headstock bar).

Yeh there's a few videos online that shows glimpses of his board. All I really saw was a pog2, whammy, some kinda boss distortion, big muff, line 6 echo park. Do you know what kind of pickups those teisco's have?

Yeah, he's got the gold foils commonly referred to as "Ry Cooder" pickups.

Yeh definitely, their new album has slide all over it. Made me realize that I need to pick one up myself and stop using a lighter.

I usually use a screwdriver. But yeah, those gold foil pickups sound incredible. They're a good part of the reason I want to get an older Teisco.
