Tiny synth recommendations?

Post by behndy »

osu.

so........ i'm still all wet at the idea of having a floor based one octave midi keyboard to step on to do pads and synthy noises to supplement what my singer does during musics. think i have that part figured out, but i don't want to have another laptop to deal with live. 'specially in addition to my bass rig.

what are some awesome tiny/desktop synth style thingers? i want something that will sit on top of my rig. that would be NEAT.

needs are - polyphonic/fake polyphony with different voices, save spots, good for pad stuff and more electro things.

the Minitaur looks pretty amazing, but it's not a save system guy right? just the Where The Knobs Are dooder? i had a DSI Evolver when i was younger, loved it, the Tetra looks pretty boss...... but the way it looks kinda turns me off. if something's perfect i'd probably deal, but i know me. ugly gear makes me not want to touch it.

murrrrrrr? MURRRRRRRR??!?

I really love my bolofeld keyboard, but it's huge and crazy heavy. The desktop module's pretty much the same thing if you want to give that a try. It's got polyphony and some pretty extreme modulation possibilities.

Yeah, the Slim Phatty is awesome, and has save slots, but it's not polyphonic.

As for my personal experience, the Nord Lead 2 Rack is a desktop-style thanger, has save slots, is polyphonic and sounds awesome. One of my favorite synths.

It's a really easy interface to use. There are a couple things are a little tricky, but I don't think I've ever read the manual. Also check out this demo:

I had a CS-80 for a while. One of my friends was loaning it to me because he wanted me to buy it. I was keeping it in my bedroom and my apartment was really small.

It literally took up half the room.

Whatever happened to the idea of wearing an iPad as a breastplate?

:thumb: what can I say, it's a fun synth. One drawback is that it's not super friendly to on the fly tweaking. So, unless you want your band staring at you impatiently while you carefully tweak settings; it's best to find the sounds you like and then bring them to band practice.

yeah. i love sound design stuff, that's why the screen appeals to me bunches, but with all the bass and pedals shtuff going on, i'm not trying to do ANYthing beyond change patches live. maybe open a filter or two. but predominantly a set it and forget it setup would work best.

For that it's perfect. And the screen is awesome for sound design. It helps a lot with everything, makes things a lot more intuitive, especially the filters and the modulation routing.
