Volume Pedal before / after / mid chain?

Just curious as to how many of you use a volume pedal, and if so where you put it in your chain.
Ever since I've got mine I've used it in the front of my chain without anything in front of it except possibly my tuner. I've never put it post-dirt because I do volume swells quite often and also use the volume pedal to control the gain of my fuzzes.
Where do you use yours? Why?

I use it at the end of my chain because I like how the swells break up and it sounds stellar with delay>dirt>volume... I actually have no idea what I'm talking about but I really like how it sounds compared to the front of my chain

.

after dirt so that volume swells with full gain on, but before modulation/time effects so that they trail off nicely.

Exactly how I do it too.

Before my chain because of space issues, but it is nice to be able to clean up a fuzz with a volume pedal. I hate volume knobs.

agree
after dirt pre time based stuff
although I would like to be able to fade out loops, I used to do this by having an ME25 end of chain but that was alot of extra junk
anyone running two volume pedals?

Mine's at the end of the chain for instant cut offs. Our band does a lot of builds to pauses or instrument drop outs. With the volume pedal at the end i can cut it off instantly, but if I'm playing something distorted and want to trail off i just kick off the dirt pedal or hit the tuner at the beginning of the chain.

I put my tuner at the end of my board for this purpose.

I Know this is the wrong thread but somebody is going to have to talk me into a pedal tuner, I have been using the clip on tuner for a long time, and am not sure how to justify taking up valuable pedal space for a tuner
even pre clip on tuner I just ran a small handheld tuner off the direct out on my metal master
back on topic: People with volume pedals beginning of chain have to explain the logic, it seems like you could just use your volume knob, smoother swells??

fuzzy swells into delay?
So i need it in the middle of the chain.

Pretty much beginning of chain when I use one, I'm used to it from back in the stone age when the early 90s rackmount insisted that's where it will be forevermore in its programming.
Now I just stick with what works.

Ahhhh you have a good point there sir! I guess it could work either way, just depends on what you want to swell.

I always put my tuner before any effects so I have the straight guitar going in to be tuned instead of effects.
Do you find it hard to tune with it at the end of your chain? Or do you just tune after it's already killed the signal in between songs?

Then you have to turn off tons of crap just to tune, no? I never understood how people could have their tuner anywhere but first for that reason.
