I have been overdrivng my Tascam 4 track for distorted lofi sound since I got it. It's warm, fuzzy, sweetly compressed and nearly no extra humming noise. The mixer type eq is great, too. I want to incorporate the sound in my live gig without bringing my beloved recorder though..so...
Any pedal can simulate the sound?
YoTR?

Could you maybe give an example? I'm sure a Devi pedal could do it seeing as that's what her pedals initially were for.

I know that the guitar solo on "Street Fighting Man" was played through a small tape recorder to create the distortion.
The distorted guitar on the Beatles "Revolution" was straight in to the board.

If you want a Revolution tone, I'd say some version of the Torn Speaker or Disaster Fuzz. But you said "warm" so maybe the Us could be a good candidate. It's gated a bit so the noise wouldn't be a problem.

my MXR D+ sounds kinda like that, but it has a weird random op-amp that i assume is not original.

thanks guys, I'll try working some guitar clips out later in the day after work.
btw, it sounds like the distorted guitars in early the micophones albums a lot, though I know Phil used reel to reel to get that.

you know, you can probably get a spare 4 track for less than a pedal...

You may just have to hunt around thrift shops etc for an old recorder.
There is some one else (famous too) who uses an old portable reel to reel as a pre amp to get that distortion. Wish I could remember who it is.

i seem to recall a recent interview where he said he finally had a device that simulated the sound well enough that he could leave the old tape machine at home. custom job, of course.

Thanks guys! Problem solved today!
I got WS in the mail and TP side alone gets the sound I wanted really close with volume roll off a bit!
However,
WS is more than I expected!!! GREAT early pavement fuzz. It instantly became my favorite pedal when I played the first note on it.
I can't say enough good thing about this pedal... It's my dream fuzz sound and it inspires me like no other pedal has done.
Now I need to get all the TP variations.

I hope my White Spider and B:Assmaster don't really cover the same ground.
I doubt they will. Would be nice to have too very distinct flavors of fuzz dirt.
