High end/LOW end????

What are y'alls' takes on what pedals can produce a big contrast between a DEEP low end and a really articulate high end? I'd rather not have to play through two or three amps all the time to get that effect, though it is fun
I find that the bassier sounding pedals tend to muck up the the high end, and the not-so-bassy pedals seem to only be able to get down into that (really big sounding) low-mid range, but without actually being really deep. I have a Hair of the Dog, and it's BY FAR the bassiest pedal I have, and I love the hell out of it, but it doesn't do high notes so great. At least not in an articulate manner, anyways. Thoughts?

Are you asking for pedals that have great low end and high end at the same time, or that can go between the two? If the former, my first thought is SS/BS Fuck Overdrive. Big sounding and enhances both ends of the spectrum without any sacrifice.

Yeah, basically. I just want to be able to play some lead stuff, have all my notes be heard, and then be able hit a beefy low power chord and hear it sound big. I hate playing single-note leads and intricate stuff, only to go to big chords, and have them sound way smaller than I think they should.... I've wanted a Fuck for a looong time, but just haven't had the spare dough for a pedal. I need dynamics!

I'm going to get in before someone else does and say "THE ELEMENTS". If you're looking at pedals with a few knobs then I think it's really rare to find something that brings the highs and the lows, but a well thought out EQ like on the Elements makes this possible.

Yeah, I was going to say The Elements as well, though the Fuzzhugger Magic Meter seems like it could do this as well.
One of the keys to cutting in a mix, in my experience, is not so much the highs and lows as it is the mids. A lot of people equate scooped mids with a "heavy" sound (a la many Muffs & their variants), but in full band situations, those scooped tones get lost.
I believe both the Elements & Magic Meter pedals have some serious mid-shaping capacity. But you might also want to consider the Musket (and/or Blunderbuss), as well as the (gasp) Swollen Pickle. All should be more than capable of bringing the lowz, highz and MIDZ!

i had this same situation and it drove me nuts for a bit
without a bass there was just too much empty space
when i adjusted the amp high or low the other end crapped out
it was between the fuck, bat black forest, and d e electric brown
went with the e.b. cause i wanted somethin simple(cheap) that could be left on all the time
and it works
also adding a 2x12ext cab helped alot
seems like everyone loves the fuck

Yeah, I realize this, but it just doesn't "feel" right when the mids get cranked. I used to have a twosome, but my Dwarfcraft pedals were keeping it out of my chain! I'll have to keep my eyes peeled for a Fuck and/or Elements... they've both intrigued me in the past.

Check out the Mountainking stuff too.
Everything that I've tried from the has been able to be really heavy yet let the high end through too.

Ryan's got some good demos of the Elements with maxed mids, Kayzer does as well if I remember. It doesn't sound too "pushy" even maxed. I'll do a demo tomorrow and post it in this thread as soon as I can work out iMovie.
Edit: Ryan's Slayer setting (maxed mids - keep in mind that you can choose three different mid frequencies to boost/cut)

What sort of sound are you aiming at? I'm no guitar genius but I'll try and dial in something similar on The Elements tomorrow and jam out some riffs. Note it will take me time to post the results cause I am clueless with youtube and have time limited by a 1 year old son...

Hm... interesting. How about an octave fuzz, with the octave effect footswitchable for when you want to do leads? I have a Foxx Tone Machine clone by a forumite that's great for that sort of thing. Also, the new EQD Hoof Reapers have the octave on its own footswitch...
Oh, and I use my Tone Machine on bass, so it's definitely capable of cranking out lows...

+1 - A tone machine can definitely do the big lows and big highs thang. Either find someone to make a clone, or check out the Homebrew UFO, which is also a clone with the octave controlled by the a footswitch.
